Default Plant Food?

It's not anything to do with tradeskills, but since tradeskillers traditionally tend to be good at finding formulas and recipes, I'm going to start a thread here.

For those who purchase the KoS expansion from a retailer, you can claim a carnivorous plant housepet. (Please, no vents about not getting one with the digital download. Game companies pretty much HAVE to offer something extra in a boxed edition in order to convince retailers to give the item some shelf space, and this was what they did. For those who don't have the boxed set, fear not, you can go into someone else's house and use their plant for these combines. :P)

Feed the plant (right-click the plant for options) varying amounts of the following looted items to receive a 1-shot item of some type. Please post any combinations that you know, and we'll try to keep this thread updated. (The number indicates the rough level of the mob, and we've been told they drop mostly off "sentient" creatures. Drops are pretty uncommon.) Level of the items does not seem to matter. All successful combinations except fresh fruit return items that are based on the level of the person feeding them, not the level of the items you feed the plant. In the case of fresh fruit, the level of the fruit returned to you is based on the level of the items fed to it.
  • 10 pouch of peat
  • 10 flask of rancid water
  • 10 small decaying bone
  • 20 small bag of ammonium sulphate
  • 20 flask of stale water
  • 20 large decaying bone
  • 30 small bag of muriate of potash
  • 30 flask of pond water
  • 30 small polished bone
  • 40 small bag of diatomaceous earth
  • 40 flask of fresh water
  • 40 large polished bone
  • 50 small bag of ammonium nitrate
  • 50 flask of pure water
  • 50 small meaty bone
  • 60 small bag of guano
  • 60 flask of aerated water
  • 60 meaty bone
  • 70 small bag of compost
  • 70 flask of enchanted water
  • 70 large meaty bone

New (LU22 or later) Working Combinations
All are in fertilizer/water/bone format
  • entwining roots, 4-second cast-time root: 2/3/1
  • short root/scenic root, (movement) speed increase: 1/2/3
  • power root, power increase: 2/1/3
  • flame root, damage shield: 3/1/2
  • toadstool, shrink/grow: 1/3/2
  • lightning root, attack speed increase: 2/2/2
  • shifting root, invis: 1/2/2
  • escape root, group evac: 5/5/5
  • mending root, heal: 3/1/1

  • 1 fertilizer, 3 water, 3 food - fresh fruit
  • 2 fertilizer, 2 water, 2 food - fresh fruit
Invalid Combos - yield no value, no stat rotten fruit (pre-LU22)
  • 1 food
  • 1 fertilizer (lvl 10), 1 water (lvl 10), 1 food (lvl 10)

Are those new loot drops with KoS? I've spent the last several days since my return leveling in tier 1, and I don't recognize them. So either they are new, or painfully rare.

They are new items that drop since KoS

Yes, these should be uncommon loot drops across the various tiers, and it is going to take some work to figure out how much food, fertilizer and water is needed to make what.

So far, all I've had time to scrounge is a large meaty bone, so I can't do any testing yet.

Haven't gotten anything myself here (couldn't play yesterday, server crashes after I log in and zone to TT... Grr!... So no playing today) but I think I'll start with a 1:1:1 of a single teir (if I can) and then experiment by raising numbers.

I'm guessing that theres a fixed ratio that spreads over the tiers... Ex, 1:2:3 makes a potion that does xxxx on all teirs, but how long it lasts / how effective it is increases with the teir of stuff you used, perhaps?

One thing i noticed is that the lvls above are not an indication of the zone you find the items.

I was getting small meaty bones in the Tangle and according to the list they should be t5

It's based on the level of the mob, not the zone ...some of the Tangle mobs are in their 50s, so will drop 50-something look, if I understand correctly.

Added the first data point to the main post

In addition to the combines themselves, is there any point in keeping track of frequency of drops for balancing purposes? So far I've not seen any of them drop, but I spent yesterday in the caves and the previous day in peat bog. It may be that the drop rate is relatively low in tier 1, or I may just be really unlucky .

The drops may/may not happen until you hit level 10 critters. Things are still fuzzy.

Also, there was one quote that the drops are off sentient creatures only (no animals, no plants, but things like undead, nymphs, faeries, humans, gnolls, orcs etc.)

Did you use all Level50 items? (Or level 40 perhaps)?

Confirming 2 food + 2 water + 2 fertilizer, level 40 (drops from Zek) = fresh fruit (level 30 food, average, duration 35 minutes, no stats other than increased health regeneration)

Man this is the first I have seen of getting other stuff than fresh and rotting fruit so I will definitely be saving up to try different things.

I am curious if anyone has tried to just keep feeding etc a plant over days and seeing if something happens or does it have to be an all at once deal?

Folks have been pretty quiet about what they have/have not tried, both here and on the SoE forums. I've been stockpiling goodies so that I can do some poking at it in one swell foop, but there always seem to be 30 other things to do every time I log on. :O

Curiouser and curiouser ... the order in which you feed the durn things may make a difference.

This is going to be a pain to figure out, to say the least.

An interesting read! i may not have paid enough attention, but it seemed to me I got the 'check soil' option after watering. Either way: it mattered not how many of each I used, or the order, with tier 1 (10) items I always got rotten fruit. With tier 2 (20) I have thus far received naught but fresh fruit, whether I gave singles or multiples. I think I rather consistently feed, fertilize, water, so next time I accumulate materials I'll try varying the order to see if that changes things.

From a guildie after the LU22 changes ... order for all these is fertilizer, water, bones - he used the highest-tier components. Will test with other tiers later. This version of them created level 65 items

entwining roots, 4-second cast-time root: 2/3/1
short root, (movement) speed increase: 1/2/3
power root, power increase: 2/1/3
flame root, damage shield: 3/1/2
toadstool, shrink/grow: 1/3/2
lightning root, attack speed increase: 2/2/2
shifting root, invis: 1/2/2
fresh fruit: 3/2/1, 1/3/1, 2/1/2, 2/2/1, 3/3/2

And, wheeeeee!!!! 5 fertilizer, 5 water, 5 bones (tested with all tier 7) = a one-shot evac potion. Other tiers have not been tested yet.

I think we have most of the combinations sorted out now. Instead of continuing to edit the main post, I'll point folks over to the plant feeding guide I've put up about it.

Also, for a bit of humor regarding Mum and the plant, check out Adventures In Plant Sitting over at Ten Ton Hammer
