Is there any use for carpentry beyond its roleplaying applications (furnishing your home which, IMO, doesn't necessarily contribute to the success of your character)? i.e. are there any objects that you can make with carpentry that can be used outside of the home in an adventuring context?
Well, beyond making bookcases upon which you can store books you get from completed quests.

Carpenters get the LARGE bank slot (well you could carry them, but they are 100.0 "stone") containers. Just at Tier 3 (level 25) they can make boxes that have 16 slots.

On this nice big beautiful (and heavy) boxes, can you place them in your home for additional storage potential? I'm still a baby crafter, but want to advance and hang on to the piles of piles that I'm gathering up ... and just don't have enough space! :)
Thanks in advance for any information on these boxes, and any other known containers one can get that actually _hold_ something in the home ;)

The strongboxes are meant as in-bank storage only, but are VERY handy for there, as they tend to hold more than their similar-level pack counterparts from the tailoring types.
Once more guilds get really high in status and cash, I suspect we're going to have a lot of guild halls that need decorating, too, but I'm truly one of those that crafts for the fun of it, and I find furniture "fun" to make. :)

I too enjoy crafting furniture for the look of it =)
I do hope that they make some of the stuff useable in your house tho... it would be nice to store all my raw materials in those chests =)

anyone else find it weird that a box weighs 100, but a bookcase weighs 0?

Yeah =)
It's that packing technology...
*Lifts up a bookcase and somehow compresses it into a tiny cube*
See...
*Somehow uncompresses the bookcase to full size again*
Now boxes... they've got... erm... six sides... yeah... that's it, it's the 6 full sides so you can't compress them...
*Walks over and kicks the uncompressable-box... then howls over his stubbed toe*

Oh, I fully agree that the crafting is the fun part and to be able to see the lovelies we all make :) I've a crafter in SWG for that very reason, just had so much fun making it all! (And I'm one of the loonies from EQ1 that was working _two_ druids up through the Shawl quest ... I'm a nut <G>)
And I tried the trick suggested in another Thread about making those boxes so they go in the overflow slot -- which was a very good thing, since my poor li'l rat that was doing it could only carry 70# ::chuckle:: She now has two six slot boxes in the bank, and will be working the crafting up to do 'em better next time around ... once she gets her tail out of Freeport and up to Qeynos where her heart longs to be!
Total aside, I'm just sorry that they are limiting folks to four chars and there are nine different crafting paths. Between my husband and I we'll be able to cover eight of 'em, but having to choose is going to be tough - they ALL look fun!
Thank you for the info, and a HUGE thank you to DenMom and HouseOgre for all their hard work and this wonderful site ... I'd not be the crafter I am without ya'll
