View Full Version : Crafted by... and item decay

I hope that the items that are player made offer a significantly lower item decay and that they have a crafted by... tag on them so people know who makes the quality items over who makes the mass-produced items. I think that this would offer a great deal of realism ie. handmade furniture last longer made by a local carpenter than that $199 deal from Target.
Then crafters would strive to make the best that they could offer and would separate the crafters from Joe Dohn that leveled his baking up to 200 on fish rolls and Patty Melts.
*If anyone on here has a char or is in RL named Joe Dohn, please do not take offense.
We don't know how decay affects crafted items compared to non-crafted yet, but I'd be willing to bet that there isn't going to be any real difference.
Items will have a Crafted by tag on them though, which'll be nice.

Heh, wouldn't it be neat if every crafter who had a hand in an object got their name on it? Example:
Studded Bracers of Lightning
AC: 4
5% Lightning Resist
CLASS: ALL
RACE: ALL
Crafted by: Homeslice
Tanned Wolfhide by: Homeslice
Metal Studs by: Grei
Rock Golem Extract by: Drucilla
Resist Lightning Enchantment by: Ngreth
See? Then everyone will get the credit they deserve ;)

That would be pretty cool because my name is on there twice ;)
But really that is a lot throw down on an item and I am sure that only the final craft counts in tagging and that the components aren't listed. However, when someone needs an item that I know someone else specializes in, I would send them to the people that have helped me or I am friends with. I always send a lot of business to everyone I know in SWG, it is just another way to be known in the world :)

While it would be cool to have my name out there as Moonshade suggests (thanks for the plug!) I agree with Homeslice. It would be rather cumbersome I bet to program that stuff. Additionally there are so many subcombines of subcombines, it could get really crazy.
I probably would do the same, refer people to people to people. I did that in EQL (though admittedly most of it was through my guild). :)

yeah, much information :/ At least there will be ONE tag. And every "class" has finished products they make, so even if they do not get to show their tag on sub-parts, at least they have their product to show off :)

Oh I know they won't do it that way, but I thought it'd be fun to throw it out there anyways :)
I don't know what type of crafter you'll be Ngreth, but you're the most Sagerly..um Sagey..err, Sage-like Ogre I know :)
Cool, I'm the studly one. ;)

Wouldnt that make you studified?
If you were to credit every Artisan who's items made it into a finished item, then by listing those sub-items you'd also be giving away too much information about the actual recipies and the skill levels required to your competitors.

Wear takes place upon death of you character, so far I’ve not seen any decay incurred from general use other than you will out level the usefulness of the armor. Your armor starts at 100%, you get a 10% decay per death.
When an item(s) get to a certain decay its removed from your worn slot and placed into your bags/inventory slots. You then have to get them repaired from a mender to re-equip them.

Heh, Moonshade, what he doesn't say is that he's also got a scholar on another character. Ngreth, however, has traditionally been a smithing type. :)
