View Full Version : Will sages be able to create spells from scratch?

It's been officially said that players will get their 'primary role' spells automatically. You then take this 'basic' spell to a sage who'll upgrade it. Players will have to either buy or loot their 'secondary role' spells. My question is: can sages create these secondary role spells from scratch?

We have not been given enough information to figure that out :/

I'd also like to know when you can upgrade spells. It's been stated that you "receive your spells when you level". Does that mean you receive spell scrolls that will be scribed, or do the spells just magically appear in your spellbook?

I would think that you receive scrolls, and then, before scribing, you take those scrolls to your local Sage and he/she upgrades the spell for you. I haven't been able to envision a way to upgrade the spell itself after you already learn it -- if that's the case, I would expect that you make a whole new Scroll of Fiery Killing Spell (2) or something, that the person would then scribe to replace the old spell.

Edit: And maybe, if we can craft entirely new scrolls for spell upgrades, maybe we can also craft "secondary" spell scrolls from scratch :)

I guess we'll see. Just because we think it's logical doesn't mean they think logically! ;)

The one thing I do remember them saying repeatedly is that spells and combat abilities and such automatically appear in our knowledge books as soon as we level. Therefore you don't have to spend a single copper to get a spell or an ability (as is the case in EQLive for spellcasters and berserkers and probably others these days) unless you decide to upgrade your exsisting spells or abilities.

No idea how the upgrades will work yet though...since there's been no information on how Sages create them. Maybe it'll be a scroll, maybe a book, maybe just a magic crystal you place on your forehead and it 'zaps' you with the upgrade.

I'm pretty sure you'll be able to have your spells scribed in your spellbook and then later have them upgraded by your friendly neighborhood sage. It wouldn't make sense to leave you without spells until you can find a sage.
