I've recently been assisting Wayward on the Antonia Bayle server with her 2nd Annual Frostfell Decorating Contest. It was her concept, and this year I just helped her out with various mailings and contacting people as she's been rather busy.
All of this has lead me to considering the possibility of running my own decorating contest, perhaps something on a slightly larger scale. With Wayward's contest the participants are limited to a single room inn, and can not use quest rewards (except for frostfell quest rewards, and those doable by level 1 players such as the housing introduction "quest") and no rares can be used.
I'm thinking of possibly running a contest of my own that would take place in the Spring. Most likely I'd hold it on the Antonia Bayle server, but now that I consider it there is the possibility of opening it up to other servers... But I'm not sure how feasible that would be.
I haven't been able to decide whether or not some sort of Theme should be chosen for participants to work on. Perhaps a "Spring" theme, or just let them come up with their own themes. Or even come up with some kind of quote or line of thought that participants could interpret in their own way through their decorating.
I thought I'd reach out to other decorators out there and get some ideas. Here are just a few of the questions I've been pondering:
Do you think another contest like this would be a good idea?
Should I open it to all servers, or keep it on Antonia Bayle?
Would people be open to decorating a 2 room house or even a 3 room house?
What kind of prizes should be awarded for decorating on a larger scale with the 2-3 room homes?
I would like to open up the rules so that anything can be used, as there are so many decorators out there with a wide range of options available. Handcrafted and Mastercrafted items, Quest rewards, Collection rewards, Faction items... Wayward's idea for the Frostfell contest was to make it an equal playing field for anyone to participate. I have been suprised though to realize just how many carpenters and decorators are out there that could do so much more.
