View Full Version : Crafting from home... have we earned it?

I am very proud or our guild's 3 guild houses (officer houses atm) that are communally used by our fantastic veterans who spent hard earned status points to fully furnish them with elaborate crafting stations.

I absolutely LOVE crafting in our halls but, it's well known in the community that there are some major inhibitors to being a home-based crafter that not even the best preparation can help us with.

As we discovered the crafting epics a thought occurred to me... what would be a coveted reward for us crafting pioneers that have seen the system overhauled, wasted weeks of their lives upping skills that are no longer used to be self sufficient cross-class subcombine makers, stick with it because their friends count on them even when their is no market demand?

these folks that are the first level capped crafters on our severs every time it raises and are viewed as masochists to many in the community that just didn't like crafting when they tried it and are constantly continuing to craft with no xp to keep the guild supplied. (I always wondered why I couldn't up our secondary class, like tinkering, similar to AA. I mean it's exactly the same grind but that's another thread probably.)

Don't get me wrong, most of us have come to eventually appreciate most of the changes and hold hope every time the desire for our wares drops that SoE is working on rectifying the perceived insult. I made a point of not looking at the stats for our crafting "epics" jsut because I was really hoping it would be a big "thanks guys, for all your hard work."... and it is pretty sweet to have earned a run-buff and the other skills are definitely sweet.

Crafting skill bonuses almost feel like overkill but, I'm certainly not complaining... I was just sitting here and had the epiphany... what would REALLY ROCK for the old school seasoned crafters and make their crafting experience more enjoyable is doing it from their own shop!

Anything that allowed a us to craft from the comfort of our own home is what the uber crafters would love. We crafters tend to be the same neurotic folks that LIKE spending time decorating our houses, throwing e-parties or just being social recluses happy to hermit away.

We've earned this haven't we?

It takes me 10 minutes to zone into my fully furnished top end house or I can wait 30 minutes for someone to mail me a missing component (which I've done)... How about a LORE NOTRADE market board with a buy button, usable only by lvl 80+ crafters (arbitrary number for when you think we've earned it)?

Or a workorder clipboard where we could take a dozen crafting writs home with us. Heck, I've even heard the idea of mailorder writs which seemed pretty novel.

Make these items TEMPORARY or with a number of charges... that can only be made through the commission system... by another level 80+ crafter... but I'm sure what ever the reason that inhibits us from happily working from home can be mitigated in today's item mechanics and still give us a reasonable alternative to what is quite literally CRAFTING DUNGEONS. I have seen the influx of outdoor crafting stations and those are sweet btw! ...they just need writ givers near them and I may never craft indoors again even if I have to run a little to get to a broker or mailbox.

(just some thoughts...)

She is just as bad of tease here as she was in Vegas. ;) I hope some of those changes occur that would be so great.

Personally I think it's a complete waste. 1 rare root = 10x 30mins of rush orders. I do loads of rush orders a day, if I did rush orders for say, 2.5 hours a day, I'd need a new rare root every two days. I thought at firts it'd be unlimited it got my hopes up.

IMO they should have made it unlimited. (and to avoid that being overpowered, it should require a Chromatic Essence) Looks like I'll be crafting in IFE afterall. My poor baby dragon has to sit home alone all day.

Go harvest a few bushes. They seem to drop Rare Roots more often than root nodes in my experience. I have a stack of 50 of these things moldering. This will at least give me something useful to do with them.

Besides, the Summon Writ Givers are an ALTERNATIVE, not meant as a complete replacement for regular City Writ givers.

So, if you can only "afford" to "waste" 1 rare root every week that is still 5 hours in which you have the option to do writ grinding from the comfort of your in-game house, while you sit at your computer in your RL house. :D

That being said .. Wouldn't hurt to /feedback a bump in the duration to maybe an hour instead. That way it would be 10 hours per Rare Root.

I have to agree with Laurence on this, honestly... I didn't realize at first that it was only a short duration, myself. Now that I know it requires a rare root AND it's a limited duration... it just seems like it's really not worth it to me.

I, for one, can NOT easily harvest T8. My highest adventure level is 58. And blowing a Mantrap Root every time I want one of these rush order writ giver is an immense blow to me.

I'd rather use those roots for something useful and permanent. You may have a bunch moldering around your bank. I struggle to get even 1 for a decent price, let alone trying to harvest the stupid things.

If nothing else, why the heck does it have to be the highest tier root in the entire game? Most of the crafters I'd want to use this for are lower in level, as a way to gain experience. On retrospect I'm starting to realize these are NOT the great thing I thought they were... And I'm now feeling extremely disappointed.

You get (10) summon items per (1) rare root.
Each summon item gives you 30 mins to do writs. Which equals 5 hours. If you are doing the non-rush writs .. and taking way longer than 10 mins .. yeah maybe they aren't worth as much to you. But, for rush writs in the comfort of your house .. i'd say they were worth it. Should be able to do 3 writs per item, if it takes you the full time.

For the record, I'm sorry but I really hate hearing .. "i have a hard time harvesting on my X-level adventurer in T8". T8 has way more room to manuveuer than any other tier beside T2 in Ant/CL!. And, only a few of the mobs have really big agro ranges .. most are really short and don't seem to notice you standing there 4 ft away ..

I have a lvl 27, who can harvest in T8 just fine! I also have a lvl 8 on the test server that can do it as well! There are muliple locations that are completely argo free even. (Argo free assuming you have the 1 of the crafting factions).

I do prefer JW ... Map (http://eq2.eqtraders.com/images/articles/JW.jpg)!!!

For bushes, roots, wood, & dens. There is a decent place to harvest over by the Ganak's Battlement. Dens in & around the campfires. Wood / Roots / Bushes just off of Ganak's Battlement up towards Traitors pass.

There is also a sweet spot for 2 rocks / 2 ores & smattering of bushes, wood & roots over by the area in Traitor's pass towards Skeleross Encampment (avoid them they are argo)

I also harvest in and around the road to Danak Shipyard. Lots of roots, bushes, ?'s, wood, dens .. if I am feeling particularly brave .. ore/rocks around the Azure Cradle .. carefully avoiding the walking-fishmen-things. If i die .. well I can harvest some pelts over by the revive spot, usually a rock or 2 .. work my way out and get a few more ?'s .. and continue till I have full bags.

But, there are also areas around the wall heading towards JW in JP that can be mined, carefully avoiding the Wurms. Roots, dens, bushes & wood that can be harvested while dodging the slow lumbering giants. The trents in that area are non-argo ..

And, if you are still completely scared witless by harvesting in T8 .. there is still the front of KP at and around the dock area .. up towards TG and over around the other side of the mountain for the back way to TG .. can pick up over 12 different nodes, they are rather random in that area. Can't depend on getting an ore node because it can be a root or a den .. *shrug* ..

Just takes time. And, frankly even with my level 65 (which is my highest adv) I just run around harvesting "naked". Of course I have exp off so I really don't care about exp debt but what do you have to lose? I die LOTs of times. So what? Plan on doing harvesting, then crafting and by the time you are done crafting ..your exp debt will be gone.

Trust me! You have way more to gain as a Low level Adventurer than you have to lose by harvesting in T8.

This will be the only expansion that my hubby's Paladin AND his Swash will both have their upgrade Loams without having to sweat the harvesting .. I have 30 Loams "moldering" in the guild bank, waiting for him to hit T8 Adv level. Not to mention the 40 rare woods, 20 rare ores, 13 rare soft metals, 25 rare gems .. My tailor has used up a few pelts on the mannequins I think i have like 12 left. T8 harvesting has been good to me. I could make a "killing" selling off these rares but I have plans for them ... (most of which involve furniture) :D

The above harvesting has been done all by me. The hubby has been busy in T6 harvesting ore to level up his WS.

I agree with both of these statements. If it needs to be a rare root, can we compromise and make them last longer, maybe 1 hour? or can each have multiple charges of say 5? I don't see that as being too unfair. It would just be more worth my while for consuming a rare. If they are worried about giving them more charges or a longer time, could we use a different rare, like a smoldering material? or the new chromatic essences? Both of which have a high demand right now, but overtime I see them dropping to more reasonable rates. Roots typically do not.
