Yes, it's the Question Gnome back again with another instalment!

With tinkered charged items, is there a way to recharge them, or do you just toss it and make a new one. I know in EQ1 we made mana batteries to recharge items, but not sure about in EQ2.

The original plan was to have batteries or such to allow tinkered items to be recharged, but it never got of the ground.

The one exception is Fizzlebottom's Wondrous Hover-Gasser (http://www.eq2.eqtraders.com/items/show_item.php?item=24600&menustr=035000000000) for the Overclocked Gnomish Hovering Device.

darn, casue I'd rather make mana batteries than remake all the various charged items......

Oh well.

Oh, and thanks for the rank title, Mum!!

Well, I figured I'd just continue this thread rather than flood the boards with my random 2-3 post threads.

Yes folks, the question gnome is back and with yet another question you might have been wondering about but too afraid to step up and ask in fear of someone thinking you're a complete n00b or moron. See folks, I step up and ask the hard questions so you, the community don't have to shoulder the social burden of sounding like an idiot. I'll shoulder it. :D

So, I've got tinkering up to 233 now and I'm making portable tradeskill stations. Now I haven't wasted a charge on one to see, but when you activate it, does it pop out the graphic of the tradeskill station and have it open for others to use, or does it just open up the window so you and you alone can do a combine?

Man, I really DO sound like a n00b don't I? LOL

If I remember right, you yourself are the only one to actually see the crafting table.

{snickers at the commentary}

I know it pops out the graphic of the station, and I thought it was available for anyone to use, but I'm not 100% positive.

I do know that it goes kerpoof the second the timer winds down, so you're going to have to watch your timer carefully so it doesn't kill any item you are working on.

I've only used one once, but I'll try to remember to poke at it when I get some free time.

Many of the tinkered items I couldn't broker and make a profit on while skilling up ended up being fed to my altar, FYI. It was happy to munch on them for me!

Never even thought about it... great idea! I'm guessing transmuted items won't work this way?? :) I have a million sitting in the guild bank since the market doesn't really care about my lvl 10 molten bindings, lol.

I imagine the altar would take those as well, but have never tried (mind you L10 ones probably won't get too much by way of faction). I haven't fed anything to my altar in a while... I want to run out of faction (I had like 30-40k saved up) and then go do all the other god lines that I can for their cloaks (especially now that we're getting mannequins!). I generally only use it on raids and even then sparringly, so it goes slow hehe.

Oh, and about the station...

It lasts 5 minutes as I recall. I don't think anyone else can see it (the one time I used it people wondered what I was doing). I don't much care for them since 5 minutes is like what, 3 combines? What I'd much rather see is a MC one with unlimited charges, a 1 hour recast, and lasts 1 hour (or failing that, a MC one with 10-20 charges and a recharge recipe). I'd also *love* to see (*looks towards Domino*) an ammo-bag like scouts and fighters use for arrows and such, only it holds crafting fuel instead. Even a 4-slot one from a new quest would be *awesome*.

I hardly ever sacrifice anything as I've always been savings things to transmute. I'll have to give it a try, thanks. A little is better then none. :)

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I've made a few of the Portable Cooking sets for our guild provisioners. Never know when ya need an emergency resupply of some food/drink.

I keep cooking sets on me as well as jeweler table, so I can make parachutes for guildies (they love them :) ) and of course, more tables. Pretty sure I had one run out on me in the middle of a combine, but didn't disappear until the combine finished.

*snip* Pretty sure I had one run out on me in the middle of a combine, but didn't disappear until the combine finished. So this has always made me nervous, especially whe I was doing Harden Leaf Bracers for my server and running around to meet uber tanks in all sorts of zones for a quick commisioned combine. (those mats we and entire career worth of coin at the time)

...anyway the question gnome inside Popa Dorf has always wondered what would happen if my combine wasn't done before the forge went poof. It waits for you? Has this been confirmed? I know I've just barely squeeked out a combine while racing the timer, especially on those FABLED items when someone didn't understand the commissioning system and my forge was just sitting there rotting away while I explained the pop up window to them.

That line right there is disturbing to me. I fear it will result in many a nightmares.

gave me a great idea...... carry around tinkered tables for the Epic combines. Wow that'll be convenient! Has anyone else tried this? Hope it works

Yep, several folks on my server are carrying around their class-specific equipment for emergency field combines for folks working on their epics.

Yep. I always carry a forge around for the quick hook up and basically spam the level 80 channel letting the other uber crafters know what zone I'm in about once and hour while I'm online. I'm hammered out dozens with my pop up forges since last Thursday. I would recommend you carry a stack of fuel though as not everyone has your fuel but is happy to tip to recoup the cost.

Guess I should put more portable tables up on the broker...

Will Tinkering ever be concidered a real craft skill.

I can't use my own tinkered portable table - I can't use the tinkering harvesting items. AS these items have all the other crafting skill as requirments to use then BUT TINKERING is not one of them ?

Lordebon
02-25-2008, 06:54 AM
Tinkering is a secondary crafting skill. Thats just the way it is. At one point your maximum tinkering skill was going to be equal to 5x your tradeskill level (since theres 5 pts to a level) but that changed to it being 5x your adv or ts level, whichever was higher. And thus you can be a 400/400 tinkerer and a 1 artisan but yes in order to use many of the tradeskill related things you have to have an appropriate tradeskill level.

hyelaw

And I really don't like that change... I don't think it's fair they nerfed it. There are many non tradeskillers running around with 400 transmuting / tinkering skills and if anything a level 25 in their main tradeskill. I thought it was supposed to be a bonus to the tradeskilling profession.

Yeah I had my tinkerer pop open a work table right in the middle of GFAY one time. Looked pretty funny with deer and spiders walking by.

My issue's the other side. My tinkerer is slowly drawing in on the 400 mark, but can't use some things like the Overclocked Hovering Device because he's only 47 adventuring. Fortunately with the earring, he doesn't need to burn acrylia for the hovering device. It would be nice to get to use more of the rez devices, illusions, etc, that he can make!

hyelaw

Adventuring is easy to level, lol

Lordebon
02-25-2008, 03:06 PM
Actually, it was originally max of either, and then Beghn temporarily changed it to artisan level only and there was such an uproar that he pretty much had no choice but to set it back.

And frankly I think it's exactly the way it should be. For Transmuting, you need items from either high-level crafting OR high-level adventuring and so it makes sense that its useable by either-or. Tinkering makes devices for both sides as well and so it makes sense.

It also makes sense that just because you know how to put it together, if you're not skilled enough in the principles behind its use you can make it but not use it. And the harvesting devices are there so that artisans can have their harvesting time reduces since the WW ones are based on adventure level.

I see no "nerf" -- making them both artisan-level only was the temporary 'nerf' since they are secondary tradeskill and as such not strictly bound by your primary tradeskill level.

I guess If we could craft a tinker table I would be happy.
Gnome use only :-)))
