Doh.. I found how to submit data... sorry.
I guess my other question would be, how do we know "what" to submit. Meaning, how do I know what you have and what you need? Do we go off a job ticket of sorts?

There is, unfortunately, a multistep process to determining what is needed as there are two places the information could be contained.
First, is through the main DB interface on the main page (either via the Recipe Listings (http://eq2.eqtraders.com/articles/article_page.php?article=g32&menustr=080000000000) or by searching for a specific item or recipe (http://eq2.eqtraders.com/search/search.php?menustr=035000000000). If it's not listed there, there's a good chance we need it!
Second, is from the Database Update Submissions forum (http://www.mboards.eqtraders.com/eq2/forumdisplay.php?f=45). These are the items we haven't been able to enter yet. It's helpful to check and see there is already a submission, but unfortunately, some of those are already out of date.
So:
* If it's not in either, please submit the info!
* If it's in the DB, but out of date, please submit the info!
* If it's not in the DB, but in the forum, but out of date, please submit the info!
We unfortunately don't have any automated system to figure out what we're missing. :o (How do you know what you don't know? ;) ) We do know that a lot of our items are out of date due to the various updates, but don't know which ones.

Wow.. lol :D
Ok, I'll follow the steps you've recommended and see if I can help out. I'd like to help as much as possible, so if there is a specific task that you need done, please tell me what it is! Assign me a job :) and I'll do my best to get it done.

I don't like "assigning" stuff to volunteers. since any help is appreciated, and I don't want anyone to feel they are cornered into doing something they don't feel like doing.
That having been said, now that LordEbon's log parser is looking pretty spiffy for our database folks to whiz through recipes, our biggest slowdown is not having the item examine info handy for a lot of the stuff, especially in the spell department, since spells went through a full revamp, then a couple smaller tweaks. This is also why the scholarly professions tend to be the ones that we have the least complete in the db.
For items with crude/shaped/etc stats, stats on whichever ones folks can get us (generally shaped, once in a while pristine) are great - we can either infer stuff based on progression, or list the other quality levels as incomplete. As long as we have something for an item entry, we can then move forward on adding the recipe.
So, if anything in the above strikes a chord ... ;)

Nod. That tickles my fancy. Hehe at least points me in a direction. It's a tad overwhelming... I don't know how you guys do it.
Hehe, thanks for the tip!

ok.. sorry for all the questions.. :P
For submissions, do you prefer text or do you prefer the cropped screenshots?
I'm not sure if copying and pasting the text is easier for you guys in the data submission department.

Screenshots, please. :) It is not only easier on the folks submitting stuff, but it also gives the data entry folk something to refer to so they can be sure that a missing field was a dev oops (such as the missing handcrafted tag on some furniture, as well as some of the more memorable Beghn-typos that have finally been fixed), and not a slip on the part of the person submitting (such as forgetting to list the weight, or the ornate tag, etc., etc.)

roger that :)
I'll be submitting something for the sage volumes...

Ok, for the Advanced Sage books... I don't have all the parts to see what the final item description would be. Is it ok if I submit the "examined product" description/screenshot?

Since this seems to be the question thread, I'll add some of mine. I've been wanting to help out, but I was waiting on Joren (hubby) to get our new server up and running so I could host the screenshots there and not clog up my already rather full photobucket account. Unfortunately, it looks like that's not going to happen any time soon, for one reason or another. Is there a way to directly upload the images here? Or how would you prefer to have them? I will, of course, cut the images down to only the examine info to keep file size down.
Also, to echo Shylah's question, do you want screenshots of the examine info of the pristine items themselves, or is it OK to just screenshot the examine info from the recipe books, which is the shaped version I believe?
I'm still trying to understand the database, so bear with me.

You can attach some images directly to the post - they just have to be small, so clip 'em and increase their compression (it's not like we need lossless compression here! ;) ) Check out the attach option in the advanced reply.
Otherwise, there are some free/anonymous image hosting sites you can dump 'em on, but... (*shrug*)
For items, we would *like* to try and get all of the data for all of the items. So crude, shaped, (normal) and pristine if you can get 'em. But we'll take whatever can be gotten. So shaped from the recipe, pristine if you've made it (or even (normal) if you had an, ah, accident ;) ) or more if you care to go broker hunting or are crazy enough to make one of each.
Essentially, the DB is attempting to catelog all the recipes and what they make, providing you a chance to look up what you need for any given item (not quite as important as it was in EQ1 way back when) and what you'll get out of any process (helpful to see what stats you get and if it's worth making - and to see if a lower version has better stats, at least way back when ;) ).
And of course, the speciality sections that 'Mum handcrafts - the furniture and clothing screen shots. But those don't have much to do with the DB. :)
Feel free to ask anything else!

Welcome! Screenshots make it easier for us to make sure that all the data is included, but not everyone's comfortable with taking screenshots, finding a spot to host them, etc. As long as the information is coherent and mostly-complete, we'll take it as it comes. (Note that in order for us to add recipes to the database, we need to have the items they make already in the db, so item examine info is pretty important.)
