Ok.. I just got the transmuting skill and I want to start transmuting things. Does this mean I need to go back to T1 zones and try to get loot there?
I guess I can also buy from the broker but I would rather get my own stuff.
I am a level 36 Necromancer and have a sage skill of 33. Will I even get the drops?
Oh, one other question.. I did read somewhere that you can switch to tinkering if you don't want to be a transmuter.. if so.. where or how do you do that.
Thanks.. looking forward to the answers so I can get on with it..

To switch to tinkering, simply talk to the tinkering trainer and he can switch you. You'll start at skill 1.
Do you mean a sage level of 33 btw? Skill and level is different.
And yes you'll have to start out transmuting T1 things. That means either buying it, farming it (via an alt or mentoring) OR my recommended way to at least start is to do all the newbie quests -- they reward a good deal of transmutable armor, and you can do them for all 3 cities.

Sorry.. thats a sage level 33..
WoW.. so for a higher level char to start transmuting you would have to buy everything to transmute till you get to your Tier.. That kinda sucks, SOE put the new tradeskills in with newbies in mind. I have yet to start a fae and not sure I will anytime soon..
Hmm.. doesn't seem right for some reason.

Not really with newbies in mind. You would have trouble getting enough level appropriate gear to transmute as a newbie going up through the ranks. They did what they did to make transmuting (and tinkering in a different way) a difficult secondary skill. This pleases some folks who were looking for new challenges and provides new content to others as a result.
This was never marketed as a new tradeskill for the masses. I like the idea, even if I never get my transmuter to 350. He is currently around 85, not even to the hard stuff yet (once you hit 100, you have to make adornments for further skill gains). They did clearly state that if you don't want to invest alot of time and effort, these two skills are not for you.

I like to make alts anyway, so I created an alt with transmutable gear harvesting in mind. I spent through level 9 on the island, and gathered as much gear as I could. Well... I could have stayed a little longer I suppose. You can use the shared bank to transport things back and forth, and I think you can put most of that stuff in a pack for your higher level main. It is slow going for me though. Transmuting does seem to be a nice thing to do when I dont have the time to go adventuring, or patience for tailoring. :)
