Word from Test is that some of the Frostfell decorations are going to be available as craftable recipes, including ... fireplaces?!?!?

We'll have more on this later, as this is pretty fresh and new on Test and needs investigation and testing. :)

No more bumping that key and having the game lock for 5 seconds while the graphics card catches up?! :D

There are still many tweaks and such to happen before this stuff is ready to go live, so I'm not sure of the final form, but we have THREE fireplace recipes, several ornamental candy cane recipes, holiday hats, *decorative food* for the home and so on.

The basic plan, at least right now, is that you zone into the Frostfell zone, you pick up several of the artisan-friendly recipes from the vendor, then you go harvesting ... wrapped presents around the zone. You harvest patterns and all the other raw ingredients that are used in these recipes on a wild present-grabbing binge, surrounded by other holiday foragers, every once in a while opening up your recipe book to see another new feature.

Mouse over the desired recipe in the listing (I recommend filtering so that you see just the Frostfell recipes). Ooooh, some lines are red because you haven't harvested any of that ingredient, other lines are white with numbers after them, telling you how many of the item you have in inventory. Guess it is time to pray for cut stone from my harvesting so I can craft that fireplace!

It is very oddly addicting, for an acknowledged harvesting addict, but after filling over 70 bag slots with frostfell resources yesterday, I didn't leave myself much bag space for the crafting! (Which has to be done in that zone).

So far, the resources and the items are tradeable, so I'm likely to be parceling it out here and there to alts to let them craft. :)

Oo, maybe I'll be able to put the windows keys back on my keyboard...

I'm serious. I took them off. Now I gotta figure out where I put 'em...

Oh, and carpenters possibly getting frostfell recipes = awesome! Yipee!

Now, they only use those things from the frostfell zone right? IE we'll have to stock up if we want to keep a supply into the future... especially since the crafting has to be done in-zone =)

Correct. These are all *artisan* scribeable recipes at the current time on Test. Yes, some use the sculpting (carpenter) skills, some use tailoring, some use artistry (provisioner), so some classes will have an easier time with pristine than others.

Regardless of who you choose to harvest and craft with, these are just plain ... fun!

Heh, I chopped up the tube from a highlighter pen and put two rings under my windows keycaps so they can't be pushed down... but they're staying there because enough other programs are stupid about them.

That's great =)

What's strange are most recipes are level 10 craftsman but everyone can still use them. I would of thought level 10 would of limited it down to 3 want-a-be trade skill class like... Provisioner, Woodworker and Carpenters since they are all "crafters". Guess not.

From the screenshots i saw, the recipe books had an artisan lvl 2 requirement meaning any crafter can scribe them.
Craftsmen (and women) do have an advantage in that you get the T2 durability buffs, but a lvl 10 recipe shouldnt be that hard to pristine even if you only have the T1 buffs.

The level of difficulty on the recipe is just that - how difficult it is. Who can scribe them and who cannot is based upon the book. That's how the bug early in the game worked to acquire other classes refine level 10 books - you "leveled" to 10 as an artisan, then you could scribe all the refine books because you met the book level requirement, then you could made all of it.

So if they wanted to, they could make level 60 sage recipes available to artisans of level 2. Not that they could make 'em.... :D

I made a toon on test last night to check this all out. What I noticed is that the recipes range from lvl 10 to lvl 56. the fireplaces are lvl 10 and the candy cane weapons are in the 50's. I havent tried to make one of the weapons yet, but hopefully tonight I will get the chance. poor little level 8 toon of mine doesnt have much storage so i have to make what I can as I harvest. sniff.

Niami is right though it is very addicting. I was up until 1:30 "harvesting" presents to find what I could. And let me tell ya, I made a Cobolt Fireplace last night and they are pretty cool. 4 different fire settings including off.

I cant wait for it to go live so I can have my 32 carpenter that has storage and money get rolling on this fun.

One thing I didnt see posted anywhere else(here or even on SOE's forums) is that the Frostfell Present giver is back he is on one of the islands handing out gifts. I can verify(at least on Test) that one of the items is a Frostfell Snowglobe. Its very nice. Plays music and has a Frostfell Tree in the globe.

One thing I noticed, this morning I made some of the candy and went to place it in my apartment and it would not palce. I went huh. thats odd. when I made it I made 2 and they were stacked. unstack them and they placed just fine. So keep an extra space open when placing in your apartment.

Do you know which island? Or what the name of the person is? I haven't seen anything like this in my running around yet.

Thanks!

Look for the big tree surrounded by goblins and fae. there will be a named goblin called Gardy Giftgiver. He gives out 1 present every 24 hours (real time)

You cant miss the tree. it is something of a landmark. Its usually where harvesters on my server meet when arranging swaps of harvested materials. ;)
