I was wondering if you can get enigmas from gray monsters since they are body drops. Does anyone know a place to get them for the ever so popular t6 enigmas?

I found several T7 at the blackwind(?) laborer camp on blackwind Island in barren sky, but those were not gray monsters.

Any info is appreciated.

Wubi,

They should be on the global loot tables, so any mob 50-59 should drop them for you =)

I am not so sure about the global loot. i killed many many gazers compared to the small number of laborers... i got like 4 or 5 t7 enigmas from the laborers and 0 from the gazers. I could, of course, just have had rotten luck.

I noticed in Butcherblock that the only enigmas I (Ranger 70) have seen were 2 Carpenter Volume 3s and both were off bugbears.

I've gotten Tier III enigma books from grey Butcherblock mobs... specifically from aviaks and kobolds.

I also got a load of T3 books from the centaurs in TS. I didnt even have EoF yet so old world mobs do work as well.

I have found that enigma books drop in the upper tunnels of splitpaw at least off of the ghost type monsters. Most are so common it wouldn't be worth the effort now I suppose.. Some of the T6 books are still uncommon so it seems.. might drop from the 50s that can spawn there when you are high enough level. Haven't tested it as I am currently only in the 30s with my mentored group.

Anyone seeing Enigma tier 1 anywhere but newbie island? A guildmate has been farming the newbie island, and swears that only level 1 goblins drop them there; he also stated that he's seen none in the Qeynos newbie zones. I've been leveling a couple newbies in greater fay -- got plenty of tier 2 enigmas, but not a single tier 1.

I've seen a few enigmas in various newbie areas, but I never really kept notes on which one came from where. I was too busy trying to get transmute fodder at the time.

Officially, according to Lyndro (who is REALLY good at checking his info before he makes statements like that), they are part of the common body drop tables in various zones, so there's a slim chance at them being corpse loot anywhere level-appropriate. However, the drop rates on them aren't high, so it will be easier to prove where they ARE dropping, than where they are NOT dropping. (You'd have to kill hundreds of a specific mob type to be 100% positive that it wasn't in their drop table ...)

I have heard that the books drops off humanoid types only, not the animals. I have killed lots of gnolls in Antonica without a single drops though. Not sure if it was just bad luck, or gnolls just cannot read.:)

Well Gnolls are humanoid, so it would drop of them anyway if that's true. "Animals" are things like badgers (which we all love to mine!) and bears and such.

And yeah, Lyndro doesn't usually give out bad info (knowningly or not) so I trust that statement.

I have looted them from bugbears in BB and goblins in Nek Forest and Tombs of Night. I suspect having a language is at least one discriminant between animals and humanoids.

I happened to be in the freeport froglok quest instance (the one under the Militia hall), and one of the generic guards in there dropped an Enigma book, so they're likely on a global table somewhere... I can't imagine they'd specifically target a nearly-dead questline's 8-mob solo instance for loot table upgrades...

I've gotten 3 Enigma I books off Grobins near the Nursery in GFay, and one off a gnoll in The Caves. Also, Caves is a pretty good place to find chests - they seem to pop up there more often than other zones.

eta: I froze my Fae noob's combat exp. The books are a very rare body drop, but they are not in chests.

That was a good call on the humanoid-type things, I think. This means that it is likely on the same "generic" drop table as plant food items and guild status items, and gives us a better-defined target when book-hunting. I've updated the EoF book guide accordingly.

I got jeweler 3 of a zombie in Fallen Gate.

My theory: If a mob drops status loot then it can drop enigmas too.

woodworker 2 off a gnoll in ant.

I've check my logs and only gotten them off of Tunarian Scouts (Outpost Island) and Orc Scouts (GFay) so that supports the humanoid theory also.

got some off skeles in vallmarr - which were also dropping KOS plant drops, so must be considered sentient by the game's definition.

Undead are generally considered humanoid I believe.

The other day I got an Armorer 4 in Zek. I was on cold medicine so I don't remember exactly what I was fighting, but I spent most of my time that day fighting bitter tenders and sullon orcs. Of course I had already payed too much gold for that one and the price has now dropped. And the other guild armorer had a copy as well.

A few days after EoF went live I farmed clockworks for 8 hours trying to get an Enigma of the Tailor recipe book drop. I went to the area near the entrance to Klakanon and farmed one side exclusively.

Stand near the entrance and face Klakanon - On the left side nearest the entry are two gear sprockets - one is standing and another is laying on the ground. The clockworks that spawn around the sprocket which is laying on the ground dropped more Enigma books than all the rest of the mobs on the left side of the trail area combined. If memory serves me - five or six enigma books dropped. Nope - never got the enigma tailoring book drop .

I'm sure it's just coincidence, but there does seem to be a bit of specificity in where books are dropping. I've now done the Honor and Service HQ 6 times. In all the times of killing the named placeholder groups, as well as the footmen immediately surrounding them, I got multiple Enigma 2 drops of Carpenter, Woodworker, and Provisioner. That's it, no other type. When killing different orc groups -- the trainers/sparrers area, I got the outfitter trios. It was quite odd.
