I haven't looked at T6 and lower recipes but am fairly irked that almost all the T7 recipes (only arrows don't through level 65) require 3 horned leather pelts. Ignoring that these are the hardest items to harvest, I do not remember any recipes in T1-T6 that required more than one pelt-based sub (they might have been there - just don't remember and besides that, most required no pelts at all). Quick search here and on EQ II Woodworker forums didn't reveal a discussion on this. Anyone know the official thinking on this one?

I don't think ANYONE knows what the devs were thinking (likely not even them).
But you are correct. No recipe before the removal of subcombines required more than one leather EXCEPT for the tailored leather armor.

SOE's idea was to spread out use of items more evenly -- thus the increase in pelts there. The only problem is that not all nodes are equally easy to get... such as horned leather pelts.
/feedback it and hope for good change.

Ain't that the truth! Last night a guildie gave me 46 horned pelts and my first reaction was much gratefulness considering that they sell for 1+ gold each on Lucan. This was followed by "how did she get so many?" (she is my level). And then "it's only enough for one writ (if they ever bring them back) or about a third of 66 with discovery/pristine bonus". *sigh*
