Does anyone know the rational or reasoning behind these scrolls? Might just be me but it seems sometimes like these type of things are put in to frustrate and impede us! I know that's not the case but I am struggling to see why you should have to collect/buy these scrolls in addition to all the other artisan/essential/advanced/refining books. I have a level 60 sage and I know that from level 50 there are quite a lot of spells that I won't get in the advanced books. It's even difficult to know that you are missing a spell for your own class now that you don't automatically get an apprentice 1 version when you level.
Sage level 60. Quills, parchment, incense, resin, oil, wash, wood, roots, loam, ore..... Adventuring? Oh yes, I remember that.... vaguely.....

For one reason or another, they refer to them as "Marquee spells", and there are 3 sets of them in the 50s for every (adventuring) class, and 1 set of them in the 60s for every class. The level 50-some ones are spells that are only craftable in Adept III form (no apprentice version) from the dropped ancient teachings scrolls. The level 60 ones, for one reason or another have apprentice versions in the level 69 book, and the dropped ancient version for the adepts.
It never made a lot of sense to me, either. For sage, I believe you're looking at 18 ancient teachings in the 50s (9 for alchemists, and 9 for jewelers). I'll see if I can scare up the list for you.

Thank you so much Mum! Any ideas about the level 60 ancient scrolls? Is there a way this (simple minded) adventurer can work it out? Or is there an official page that lists all this stuff (as if!).
I still really struggle with the intended purpose of having these ancient scrolls in game. Just means that now that I don't have all the adept III spell recipies and never will have. They cost a lot of gold on the broker.
Ah well, maybe the much talked about ts revamp will ease the problem :)
(of course, it will probably generate a load more issues and problems! lol! But that keeps us from dozing off!).
Nice to see your photo from the fair Mum. Looking at that rolling pin, I must remember what a combination that is - a red head and a blunt weapon! :)
Provisioner level 42. Need more apples! Need more honey! Need more coin!
Sage level 60. Just tired!

I think of this as an experiment around making new skills as loot rewards instead of leveling rewards.

The ones in the 60s are at 69, I believe, and I don't have details because our guild sage sorta isn't the type to post recipes and stuff (just complain in guild when something doesn't make sense, or that there are no lists posted anywhere, etc. ;D)
Soon as we can find a 70 sage willing to post recipes and such, maybe we can work on getting a list together here! :)
But that reminds me that none of the ancient teachings scrolls made it to the "still need submissions" list. I'll get them into the help wanted section so we can get the details up on the site. The recipes WILL change on them, but it'd be good to get them in place.

I'm not sure if your question about why they have these Ancient Scrolls ever got answered but I think the answer is this:
These spells are all class defining skills that do not upgrade ie every class has 3 different spells that are unlike any other class AND there is no replacement spell at any level. Because of this, a special system of importance was necessary. Back into the Fray and Hibernation are bread and butter Fury spells that I can't imagine not having at Adept III even when I'm at 70 so I shelled out the big bucks to give my sage the Ancient Teachings AND the pearl to make them for me.

Thank you all for the information. I have read and re-read all of it and I think I understand how the system works. Of course I still don't understand why the system is like that <mutter, grumble>. But I won't winge and whine! :)
I do wonder if the ancient scrolls are available from a vendor - or are they strictly drop only?
Thanks again all. As happens so often, this site proves what an enormous help and resource it is.
Provisioner level 45. Refreshing white peach milk - lvl 50 and 3hrs 22min! I'm getting close to the level my mains need now!
Sage level 60. Hope we get a renewable recipie so I can make some income from him.

Ancient teachings scrolls are drop-only. However, they're such a common drop, at least on my server, that you'll find them selling in the 6-9 gold range most of the time. (They sell TO a vendor for 5g and change, I believe)
They should be easy-ish to get, and you can always have your customers keep an eye out for them for you, especially if they're going to want something made from one of them. :)

Actually, it's 36 Ancient Teaching Scrolls for sages (12 at each level: 52, 55 and 58 - 1 for each mage class and 1 for each priest class) Jewelers and Alchemists have 18 total, with 6 at each level (again, 52, 55 and 58). For some reason, Tunare's Watch, Forge of Ro and Consumption were the hardest for me to find, with Forge of Ro being the most rare.

Check to see if they're not already entered or in the submissions forum. If not, then yes, screenshots are definitely ok! :D Just put them in the submissions forum!
