Okay, am I missing something with this new method of selling stuff from your house? You buy a board, put it up, then you're allowed to put stuff up for sale that people can browse for at the brokers. All well and good so far, right?

Now if someone wants to buy something from you, they either buy it at the broker for a 20% markup or come to your house and buy it directly from you. Not too bad, travel time vs money. Decent trade off. Everything sounds okay so far...

Too bad if you log off or leave your room your stuff stops being up for sale. So they've perpetuated the "leave your computer on all night" paradigm for no good reason that I can see. You don't even get the sometimes entertaining Bazaar ooc chatter or the ability to advertise your wears to people that are likely there to purchase things. Am I missing something? Is there some advantage to this method as opposed to something like FFXI's auction houses (they stole so many other things from FFXI, why not that too?)

I wonder if I can actually make enough plat through selling tradeskill items to sell for RL money to pay for the electricity to keep my computer on all night to sell the items to make the plat... whee.

Nope that's how it works currently. :(

The idea is that having the computer / app running makes it more realistic, in that you must be "there" to be selling (it makes sense in my head heh).

If you could sell when you weren't on, then it would just be totally unrealistic, there would be no market dynamics (peak times, times that you can get the best deals, etc.). Plus, the market would be tougher... it would be like a 24-hour, 365-days-a-year WalMart that never closes and has everything you could ever need.

a few things to note here:

1. you don't need to leave your computer on overnight if you're willing to sell during peak playing hours.

2. once you start selling things, people will see your name on the finished product and you will develop a reputation as a crafter, and will (hopefully) seek you out.

3.

it takes less energy than you think (unless you have a really old, inefficient computer) to leave your computer on 24 hours a day.

just think - things could be worse. your customers could have to complete a task to get to your house. or to defeat a raid-level mob to get there. or...

This is the plan they have been saying they would go with for months. No big surprises. It is one of many methods to control the economy. you can still setup trader channels or other means to sell your wares. Its a good system in my opinion. But to each his/her own.

Indeed, leaving your computer on 24/7 is not expensive.

I leave mine on all the time, and I noticed almost no change in my electric bill (a couple bucks).

The reason? The computer itself drawls very little power...

Now, don't leave your monitor on, just the computer. The monitor draws a massive amount of juice compared to the computer, and you don't need it on.

Unless you get one of the new highest end video cards...

the Nividia 6800 Ultra draws 110watts!!!!

Yeah, those suckers draw almost as much juice as the rest of the box heh!

*Remembers back to the days when a video card didn't need it's own power connector...*

But I do have 2 7X24 Walmarts near by.

Ok, I'm new at the crafting for sale bit. But I would like to be able to craft on the off times, and adventure at the time's my friends are on.

Let me set up a broker of some kind that lets me sell my craftwork. This is real world. How many furnature manufactures sell only through thier plant. Not many. Most make the furnature, then hand the goods over to a broker. Now when I finish for an adventure period, I have to run all the way back to my home region, get in my room and then open my shop.

But what i would rather see is a vendor that understands the value add of my work. I buy x, y, z for 1sp, add my time and labor, then sell back for 90cp? Whats up with that. Let me wholesale to a vendor for a bit of profit. Maybe 2% - 10%, based on the quality. Then the vendor can sell for retail prices. Call it a 20% - 30% profit. I can then set my pricing with a base line and still make some money for my effort. This lets me play, or if I need the extra 30%, then I go through the pain of being 2 of 3 links in the supply chain.
