This is a BASIC Guide to Understanding the Tradeskill Icons and their use.
Under your Skills you will see a Tab for Tradeskills. When you click on that tab you will be presented with a number of Tradeskill Icons. These icons represent actions that you can take during the process of making your tradeskill items.
Forget everything you know from EQ Live and any other game concerning Tradeskills for they will not apply here.
When you Right Click on a Skill and Examine them you will note that each is assigned to a SKILL, not to a specific Tradeskill or device as we know them, i.e. Metal Work, Cooking, Work Bench, Forge.
Here are you Basic Tradeskill Skills Grouped by SKILL:

While you examine your skill icons note the description of the skill. All of them are for bettering your product or countering/preventing an action happening.
So, how does this all fit together? If you are planing on working with the Forge or the Sewing Table pay strict attention, others tradeskills I would suggest you become familiar with the following:
Before you attempt to create an item, Right Click on it and Examine it !!!!
Once you Right Click on the item besides normal informtion you will see:
Knowledge: xxxxxxxxxxxxx (Where Knowledge Skill is one of the above)
EXAMPLES:
At the Forge:
Tin Bar: Knowledge: Weaponry
Tin Arrow Head: Woodworking
Tin Chain Links: RuneCraft
Tin Sheet: Heavy Armor
Now you can see which Tradeskill Icons you will have to have on your Hot Bar to work with a specific item, i.e. Weaponary, Runecraft, Woodworking etc.
Device to Skill(s): (Note: Subject to Change)
Forge: All
Sewing Table: All
Engraved Desk: Woodworking
Chemistry Table: Alchemy
Work Bench: Runecraft
Woodworking Table: Woodworking
Stove & Keg: Culinary = Artistry
NOTE: This is a work in progress as I am only level 4 on the Isle and need to level up to see what changes can be made.
