Now this is just messed up. Gave a try at making some totems today. Just for grins I checked to see what they would sell back for at a merchant. 2s38cp ok, but the canvas bow strings that go into making them sell back for 4s12cp alone????

Funky....

Don't totems make multiples? So take your max cost and divide it by the number made.

You should be making 3 totems with a pristine combine.

So your 4.12s bowstring is divided by 3, as is your quill.

Hmm.. factoring in other subs (ornament and quill?) it sounds like selling totems to a merchant is a bad idea. I've found that other things seem pretty good though. T3 armor goes for 16s+ so you do pretty well - Although I haven't really tested it with woodworking stuff I'd imagine it's similar.

I think the profit selling totems to merchant is about the same as anything else. There are only three components, turned lumber, quill, and bowstring. Since the turned lumber is made from scraps and both are no-value, you'd actually get some value out of the scraps which otherwise have to be destroyed. I find that totems sell pretty well to players though, especially the Spirit Totem of the Wolf and Totem of the Chameleon. The regen totems will also probably be more viable if and when the patch goes live that increases their duration to 30 minutes, and Wolf will be even more popular going from 15 to 30 minute duration.

Also, the Totems used to be a cash cow with an udder the size of Ngreth's head, and it's possible they made it into the parking lot when the Nerf Bat hit them.

Err, I'll translate that: Totem sell back price was set ridiculously high at launch, and when the time came to tune prices, totems may have been adjusted to a little under the current formula that's based on cost of components.
