View Full Version : Problems with Existing Scribing System - My Solution

There are several issues with Adept spells and the scribing system shared by Sage's, Alchemists/Jewelers.

A way I see to fix this AND make Sages/Alchemists/Jewelers more viable for the future is by solving a few problems with the current system.

Problems:
#1 - Some Adept I spells are much more common than others, with some others being next to non-existent, whether they only drop off some obscure mob in some under used zone or because it even in the drop tables yet.

#2 - Currently there is no value to making a Pristine anything for a rare component to make an Adept 3 spell. Crude ink gets you Adept III. Pristine ink gets you Adept III. This is horribly broken as it takes more skill to make App IV spells than to make an Adept III. And yes it takes significant skill to always make an App. IV.

Potential solution these issues:
#1 - Replace all mobs that drop Ayn Adept 1 rune/spell/essence with a RARE CRUDE INK of that tier. Example - instead of mobs in Antonica dropping Tell Recruit Adept 1 they would drop Crude Suzuki Ink. This would allow everyone to roll and potentially get their spell. The market would equalize and all Adept 1's would become more affordable. There would still be a market for App. 4's, though it wouldn't be as large most likely, and as Alchemists and Jewelers would tell you there is no market for Essences/Runes as it is.

#2 - Make the progression of rare ink meaningful. Add Adept II and Adept IV spells to the game. Adept IV's spells should be one step below Master spells as Adept I's are just a notch below App. 4's.

This would make for a much more balanced and viable system, and give utility to ALL the Scholar type of tradeskills, while most likely making ALL spells more available and affordable as a whole.

I'm happy as it is with the adept3 spells. And it's not broken as it is. It is like the devs wanted it to be. :)

Yeah, it IS very frustrating to try and sell an App4 spell only to find that an App1, or a bunch of them, are selling for very cheap. It'd be different if they cleared off the market for those spells but they always seem to be there, making it impossible to sell certain crafted spells.

I suppose armorers and tailers feel much the same way, with all the dropped goodies out there.

I personally like the idea of a crude rare ink dropping. Thanks to the new mentoring system things are a bit nicer for us so we can go back and farm for the rare tier 1 books needed for our other toons.

What I would like to see fixed are more optional combines for Scholar/Sages. Other classes seem to have tons of options for skill ups. I have an Alch., woodworker, weaponsmith, and jeweler so far. When I make app4 pre 20 spells for friends it is all I can do to make a pristine app4. The counters seem to not work very well. I have better luck just letting the ticks go by without pressing anythng except to counter an error. with barely 20 final product combines, it takes me ages to make all the subcombines to simply not be able to make app4 with any sense of normalicy. (with maked skill of 100). I am sure it is even worse for sages as I work on leveling 1 now.

There is absolutely NO market for Templar/Mage spells post 20 on Kithicor. Which is frustrating b/c I would love to just buy my templar spells instead of having to level another toon. (should have picked sage instead of Alchemey, but my friends are all fighter types so I went Alch)

Thoughts?
(edit- I know have a 20 sage at the counters seem to be fixed. 3/28)

Visagoth 25temp/24 alch
Flaviuss 19Crus/22 weap
Omagnis 16 brwlr/22 jeweler
Spiritous 24 zerker/24 woodwkr
Vanquish 15 Summ/ 20 sage

Dunno what to tell you on that one. Level 30 sage here and I can make App4's 100% of the time, if I'm paying attention and using my counters effectively.

Maybe try banking extra durability for the first couple of rounds?

I don't like the idea of crude inks dropping. Right now, there are a bunch of spells that have common adept 1s, but there are many that don't. If you take a look on the broker, you can tell which you'll be able to sell and which you won't at app 4. If crude inks drop, with the regularity of adept 1 spells, there will be no market at all for any spells made with common materials. Unlike other classes, sages have NOTHING they can make besides spells to skill on, so this change would have us making spells and vendoring them for skillups.

I would like to see adept 2-4 results on adept combines, but it will suck if they implement the change the way app 4 was added - I personally have a dozen or so adept 3 spells, and I don't want to have to replace them. If they do change it, I hope they'll make existing adept 3s adept 4.

I'd also like to see some recipes added that don't have 11 billion subcombines. They don't have to be particularly good stuff, maybe some crappy click buff items like totems/potions, but making enough ink to do a level is incredibly tedious.

I can see where this would work but instead of mucking about with how things work now they could make a NEW ink that would make adept 1 spells with a pristine being adept 2. THis could replace the mob dropped adept 1's.

Just for the record adept 1's are one step ABOVE apprentice 4's

Um alchies and woodworkers have these already.
