View Full Version : Little Shocked about Adept 3 Scribing

Shocked is kind of a strong word I guess, but I'd never made an adept 3 spell until last night. I wanted my adept 3 pet buff (conjurer) so I go and buy the rare ink, and setup to make my first ever adept 3 spell. Im all primed for a good fight against the scribing table.
Imagine my suprise when level one of the adept 3 spell is....Adept III.....and level 2 is Adept III.....and level 3 is Adept III.....and level 4 is Adept III....... My wife was literally LHOA because I was so tense about it and "crude" was the same as "Pristine".
After all the importance of getting all pristine for the Apprentice spells, I was literally struck dumb by the simplicty of making Adept III spells. Seems to me this is just another part of the crafting that isn't/wasn't done when the game went live. There is more skill involved in making an Apprentice III spell than an Adept III, and that's kinda sad. Or am I wrong? I went ahead and made the spell "pristine", though it didn't seem I needed to. Wasn't taking any chances.
Thoughts?
EDIT; for my usual typos

you didn't need to. you did get the discovery bonus for pristine assuming it wasn't grey so that is always a reason.
a large amount of sages(myself included) assumed that they would make the spell change a system wide change for all types of scribing, when they implemented App IV.
I think it is messed up myself, but who knows. they might actually have a reason for this one.

Actually, this is how the spellmaking was for every spell when the game went live. And they changed it for the regular spells a while ago.
I'm glad they didn't change it for the rare ones. Imagine your customer if he wants a Adept4 and you get unlucky and its 'only' adept3 or even worse adept2? I would not like to be the sage and I would refuse to do any orders for strangers... Also imagine the alchemist who tries to make the rare ink and only gets it to normal quality, or even worse shaped. He could have done some 10g's loss on the combines...

That's risk vs. reward. As they are there is no risk at all and I think it's broken. *shrugs*
Right now Adept III's are leaps and bonds less quality than master spells, but Adept I's are not that way compared to App 4's. The way I see it Adept IV's should be in the game and be just one step less than Master spells with Adept 3's and 2's scaling below it.
I pride myself in my ability to make "pristine" spells, and after making hundreds of them T1 T2 T3, I've only gotten an App 3 once and that was the very first spell I ever made when I had no scribing skill. I felt plain dumb after I saw the Adept III progression.

I still try to scribe Adept III's all the way to pristine.
Why? Just for the XP? No, there is another reason.
Remember when the change that made the final grade determine if it was a AppII/III/IV spell scroll? Immediately after that change went live, many people noticed and complained that their previously AppIII spell/scroll was now only AppII! At the same time, some people must have gleefully and quietly discovered their AppIII spell was now AppIV.
Now imagine that happening again but this time to your Adept spells/scrolls.

first time hearing of this .im a sage and have never heard of this before.i make my own spells every spell that was app 3 befor the patch was app 3 after the patch.i make crude for the speed involded half the time they bring shaped /crude ink anyway.so unless they change adepts grades to follow what apps are this is a moot subject.

The thing that really bugs me about adepts is the cailun paper they require. I wish it matched up. It's annoying to have to go make lower tier paper instead of what I'm using for the rest of my spells when someone wants an adept. I'm sure it must be a bug, the same as how patterns used to all use 1 kind of paper instead of their tier's paper.
