Like round circular drink rings on crude tables? (only half kidding)

Lol. I think it would be possible, with bump mapping, or more likely decals, but then, if I'm correct in assuming that you mean different "stains" for different qualities, thats adding more information for every furniture recipe x 3 (1 for each crude, 1 for each shaped, 1 for each "normal", pristine remains unstained)... quite a lot to do.
OR, are you referring to staining furniture as in changing color? I think that would be a simply huge thing to implement... and so not something that we'd be likely to see.

I really want to be able to have some control over how my furniture turns out. As it is, I really dislike 75% of the furniture appearances. If I could adjust the wood or cloth colour of items, I'd be so much happier.

Tinting is actually very easy for them to implement, especially if they limited the color palette. They have plenty of practice from EQ1, and considering that you could dye armor in 1 using an RGB color slider with a 256 shade range, a simple ten or even 100 color palette would be cake. Tinting a texture requires a lot less effort than creating a new one, and it would surprise me if they don't implement something of the sort for armor as well, taking into account how popular it was in EQ1. Of course, we waited almost four years for dyes to show up.....sigh.
