View Full Version : Apprentice 4 spells possible without heritage trait % bonus?

I am a Human Sage and I have noticed a very strange thing. I can make App 3 spells no problem often falling just short of making an App 4 almost every time. My Scribing skill is max for my level. All pristine materials and such.

Do I have to be a Dark Elf to make App 4 spells because of their heritage trait % bonus? I hope that I AM just doing something wrong.

I made App 4 spells for a short time ago, for a short time very easily, but then a patch seemed to make it not possible again.

Any tips? Are any of you some other race and making App 4 spells okay?

Thx

What level sage are ya? Later on we get some nice durability buffs. The only app3 spells I make, I make on purpose for discovery exp. Use those durability buffs! I'm a barbarian and didnt take the racial tradeskill bonus, it was for alchemy.

lvl27 Sage here withouth racial bonus. I don't have any big problems making App4. All Spells I make will be the quality I wish.

I think that's the happiest I've ever been about being wrong. I've started looking more into what the buff spells do. I've found the durability ones... I'll probably do better on my next batch.

I'm a 21 Sage btw so just kinda getting started with the real spell making.

Thanks guys,

May want to read buff descriptions...I only say this because i see you are 21. At tier 3 we lost all of our durability buffs...but we get some wickidness nice ones back at tier 4 =)

What i do to make pristine:
Use tier 3 buffs till 4th dur bar hits halfway point
Use all tier 2 buffs ( all 3) which returns +25/+20 for me about 90% of the time

And normally make all pristines unless I am doing writs with the ink that my alchy botched. :-[)

Hahahah, I bet if we did a poll to see how many sages have alchemy alts, it'd be 90% :P

I would be in that 90%, and also save the botched ink for writs hehe. However, I hear some things changing in the test server forums here, check it out ;)

Fell what do you mean by "At tier 3 we lost all of our durability buffs..."? We just did not get new durability buffs but did get new progress buffs. From your next sentence you show that you are using both your progress (tier 3) and durability (tier 2) buffs.

You still have the tier 1, 2, and 3 buffs, they are all there on the knowledge tab. To make things easier drag them all onto a hot bar. At lvl 20 a sage has access to 9 buffs for scribing.
Tier 1, progress
Tier 2, durability
Tier 3, progress again

Now there is a big debate on how different the Tier 1 versus Tier 3 buffs really are given it seems their effects are very similar, if not the same.

Sorry Midori, how did you make it to lvl 21 without knowing the diff between progress and durability buffs? must have been painful I am guessing.

For an even level spell I have a ~90% chance of hitting pristine. You just need pristine ink the others can all be crude.

I have seen this in other threads, seems no consensus has been made, although the prevailing one seems to be that you get all your discovery bonus for going right to pristine the first time. So the exp gain for these two situations is the same

Make App III first
Make App IV

or

Make App IV
Make App III

Although the first method 'seems' to make it easier to make an App IV, just like once you get to pristine, the second and subsequent times it is easier, or seems that way anway.

2 best buffs i have found is jot down and spellwaeving.use one of the ones that cost power to push progress.takes 2-3 mins make pristine spell but i never fail i have 100 pct success at lev 43.

Level 10 Sorcerer, Level 27 Sage, 98% success rate on App IV's ( I only make even cons when leveling), wood elf

Oh, and for the polling thing a few boxes up heh, I have a level 32 Alchemist.
