View Full Version : Speculation--What do Builders have?
I'm going to start a bunch of 'Speculation' threads here, to try to spark some discussion and activity here on the EQ2TC forums. Now keep in mind, this is for speculating and discussion...none of this is necessarily valid until confirmed otherwise. :)
Builders are the step between Artisan and Smith/Crafter and as such, they should have various abilities that will build on what Artisans have and help the final choice, whether it be Smith or Crafter. Therefore, my predictions are:
* Basic metal alloys--The ability to mix basic metals into things like brass and bronze.
* Basic metal shaping--Turn the metal into shapes other than bars...maybe even things like knobs for furniture or arrowheads for arrows.
* Wood seasoning--The ability to make wood better by seasoning it, i.e. drying it out.
* Basic wood shaping--Turn wood into usable boards and dowels...maybe even some wood joining.
* Basic furniture design--Simple stools, chairs, tables, etc.
Let the speculations begin. :)

Will builders beable to construct buildings, or will the greatest extent be furniture.

I haven't seen anything that says Builders can actually construct buildings, but someone over on EQ II forum had the idea of an "artisan's raid", where for example a lot of builders could get together and build a temple or work on rebuilding ruined parts of a city, or something like that. I'll try to find the thread and link it. Sounded like a pretty cool idea to me.
Haven't seen any indication that we'll be able to build buildings at all. Homes are going to either be instanced (i.e. a room in an inn, a suite in an apartment building) or of finite supply only available to those with the highest reputations and most cash (i.e. Ye Olde Haunted Mansion, errr...Noble Home of Regin Blaste).
This isn't going to be like SWG with houses and cities being built by the players (thankfully--even though I left SWG around the time vehicles were introduced, all of those houses and cities really ruined the enjoyment I had in just wandering around the planets). But I'm sure there'll be more than adequate housing for anyone's tastes and desires. In fact, I'll be perfectly happy with an instanced suite (of course, I may spring for the best apartments in town if/when I can afford it) since I don't plan on spending all that much time in my home. :)

I understand guild halls will be available to those with the time and skill to make the money and prestiege to be offered them. Will all of these be in the city, or will clans be able to get maybe halls or fortresses outside the cities or in the wilderness.

At launch all the guildhalls are going to be in the cities (Freeport and Qeynos), I believe. Maybe they'll let us spread out some in future expansions.
I suspect we won't get to spread out at all like in SWG. If/when the expansions release more major cities, they will probably just have more instanced and static housing.
For instance, let's say that Kunark is found next...Overthere and FV could end up being the 'new' good and evil towns, with Cabilis either being destroyed or a pale shadow of itself (subjected to the Sarnaks again?). There could be housing available for those who want to move away from Qeynos and Freeport.

Yeah, the EQ2 devs want to keep the landscape clear of buildings. So actuall building construction does not seem to be in the plans. But who knows, that could change.

I'm pretty sure Moorguard posted that you could *NOT* construct buildings - I was also curious as I am a carpenter in Horizons & help construct buildings :)
Looking forward to crafting/designing my own furniture though...

I think artisan 'raids' are a great idea though. There are alot of abandoned (or taken over) cites out there in Norath, and people will be interested in retaking them. Using Halas as an example (I'm kinda partial, gotta love barbarians) lets say a raid is actually able to retake the city, theres going to be alot to repair there. Everything from inns to bridges will need to be rebuilt, what would be better than we artisans being able to go in side by side with the adventurers and help by making our lost cities whole?
It might not be as cool as building our own homes or cites, but it would be fun.
