View Full Version : What do YOU do with your non-pristine primaries?

I'm staring at this stack of Boiled Hide Plates in my inventory and pondering their fate... Should I just consider them a loss at vendor sell them? Should I use them to try new recipes, even though I know I won't get the "First Pristine XP bonus"? Should I use them to make lesser backpacks that I know won't sell as well as the Pristine ones (and since I can only sell 4-5 at a time, my vendor inventory space is at something of a premium)? Should I make bags to give out to friends' alts?

Well, what do YOU do with them?

Alts is a possibility. Don't be so quick to assume you can't sell them, either - as long as you can "perfect run" the boiled backpacks. The only difference between a pristine boiled backpack and a boiled backpack is a few % of weight reduction.

I routinely sell etched backpacks (non-pristine) on my server.

1) Workshop tasks only need shaped quality items, perfect for your non pristine primaries. You will have to shop for generic patterns though.

2) Crude and shaped armor sometimes sell for more than pristines due to quality vs lvl they are initialy wearable at. My tailor is Adventure lvl 14 and wearing a full set of crude tailored boiled leather.

City Writs also ask for shaped versions, that is what i save my non pristines for

Beleive it or not I sell a lot of non pristine armor peices. Lots of it. Maybe not T3 due to AQ armor but I do fro T4. I actually get requests for non pristine.

Same with Jewelry. I sell all 4 quality lvls in about equal quantities.

Normal and Pristine have different + stats. For some classes the Normal is better then the Pristine.

I usually make one of each, and sell them both. Make one of each so you can compare.

I sell both of them no problem.

Multiple good suggestions here. :) With boiled leather especially, it's good to note that the folks in the late teens that actually have money will eat up the non-pristine like hotcakes. The stats are worlds better than their tier 2 leather armor, and they can't wear pristine until 20.

And yes, there's generally a market for nonpristine bags as well. (Since I tend to fill my bags with crafting and harvesting stuff, which doesn't have weight issues, I also often keep the nonpristine bags for myself and sell the pristine ones :D)

You mean I'm not the only one who does that? :D If someone else will pay a premium for something that doesn't make the least bit of difference to me, why shouldn't I take their money?

To he honest, the weigth problem is not really a problem in this game. Unlike Eq1. I used to get to my weigth limit pretty often in EQ1 (as a caster). But not here.

Thank you, many great suggestions and I've used them all! Outfitted my guild in 10 slot backpacks, made armor for alts and lowbies at the crude level, sold non-pristine backpacks without too much difficulty, etc...

Now the only time I have a weight problem is when I have so many backpacks in the overflow slot that I'm encumbered... ;)

Recently someone offered me 5 golds for a full set of crude boiled leather armor. She will probably come to me for when she is old enough for a full set of shaped...etc. I dressed my rogue in crude, then shaped and when he is old enough will upgrade to regular and then pristine.

IF I made a non pristine backpack, WHICH I have not, I would not tell anyone. :P

I recently sold a number of Shaped armor bits, and I think I know
precisely why -- as I just *happened* to have an alt of exactly
the right level: for a given bit of armor, the Shaped version can be
worn four levels earier than the Pristine version.

And, in the case of my young alt, the Shaped version of the
next set of armor was still a big upgrade from the Pristine
armor of the previous tier.

Vendor space available, I'll be carrying down-quality armors from
now on, you bet.

( and, from now on, I promise I'll read past Page One. ugh, rookie move ... )

If it helps - In terms of metal armour, shaped can be worn at x6 levels and forged at x8. Or to put it another way you can wear shaped fulginate at 36, forged at 38 and pristine at 40.

To be honest though I'm not sure shaped is worth the effort as it tends to have the same AC and only slightly different stats when compared to the previous tiers pristine armour. Forged is well worth a look though and it's always nice to get the next tier look before most other people you'll group with. :)
