Easiest way to get to lvl 6 Artisan on Island of Refuge.
You will need to be a lvl 4 of your class to get off the island and lvling in your class increases your harvesting skills, were as crafting does not raise the them.
Felled Tree (Severed Elm) and roots are what I gathered for crafting.
I did harvest fish and unearthed stonerocks and sold those to help buy the candles and sandpaper. I also sold any feathers, shells, ect rather than do the collection quest.
You can harvests items while your class lvling if you want. I preferred class lvling then did the Tradskill quest with Dreak who is on the ground floor of the tower. Then started harvesting.
(I've seen several post on harvesting areas so will not include that here)
Here are the steps I took in lvling Artisan skills:
1.
Roots
Liquid
Generic Candle (candle)
= Cloro Resin lvl 3 skill.
Donot have severed elm in inventory because that is the default for the primary ingredient and you will want the severed elm for the 2nd step.
2.
Raw Elm (severed elm)
Cloro Resin
Sandpaper
= Refined wood (Elm Lumber) lvl 3 skill.
3.
Refined Elm (Elm Lumber)
Cloro Resin
Sandpaper
=Elm Stave lvl 4 skill
4.
Refined Elm (Elm Lumber)
Choro Resin
Sandpapper
=Elm Dowel lvl5 skill
When you get to Qeynos or Freeport you will not need to do the citizenship quest. You will already have access to the inner city zones. Where you can get better selling and buying prices.
