The patch has gone through and I am more satisfied with the new way things are than the way they were before.

I went sage to try and make money primarily, not to get to the highest level I could. If I thought I could make more adventuring, I'd be doing that instead.

XP grinders were destroying the market before. With a crude spell just as good as a pristine one, grinders were making every spell in the book and dumping them on the market for whatever they could get because XP was more important than profit. Now it's harder to make pristine spells and they have a new name: App IV. Now someone who can only make a spell of even or near even level to App2 or App3 will have it quickly trumped in the market by a higher level sage who can scribe it to App IV. The higher price for ink will also help put the brakes on the grinders.

Now sages have a clear choice: craft for xp or craft for profit.

Whilst writing this post, I had the same spell on sale at App3 for 35s and App4 for 70s. The App4 has sold! There's a profitable market out there for us now.

P.S: Adept 1 drops are WAAAAY to common. Sages have too few spells spread amongst too many players. It got worse with the patch.

Out of curiosity how much would you be willing to pay for Pristine Carmine Ink (Tier 4)?

Keep in mind it takes 5 combines to make and 3 of those HAVE to be pristine. It sells to an NPC vendor for 26s.

Edit: FYI to guarantee pristine it would take around 10 minutes per Ink.

Yes, I too am very glad to see our Sage update in the big patch! I have not had time to work with it yet. I made up a batch of spells before the patch since I had a feeling it wouldn't be far away, since I didn't know if spells would be easier or harder to make afterwards. :X I've just about finished selling the darned things off, to have room for more so I can try for some pristines.

Considering that Sages have to buy ink, paper, AND quills from someone else (or use the buddy system with someone... or an alt, if you're lucky enough to have the time), I can foresee that T4 spells are going to be a bit more costly. :)

I despise this patch. Cost of Ink has gone through the roof and Sages on my server (AB) are charging 8g for AppIV T4 spells.

There was always incentive to pristine spells in the past, that extra bit of exp. I always figured that because we can not make 1 thing for an exp combine it was balanced in that we either make the spell or don't regardless of quality of material.

Now there is no use whatsoever for less than pristine ink. I've been advising Alchemists to leave it as dye for sale to Carpenters. True, you can still get exp from non-pristine ink, but not many are willing to take that big of a loss on material costs for a little exp.

For all those that petitioned and whined for this change to our spell system, I hope indeed you are very satisfied with the results. I see it more as a case of "becareful what you wish for".

Some of it can still be used for workshop tasks. These ask for App3's (at least they did last time i checked) which only needs Normal lvl ink.

Even so, ink is still a massive pain to make which combined with the recent changes to the alchemy counters makes it a Nightmare to make. Pre-"Big Patch" i could make pristine ink 95% of the time. Now i am on about 75% success rate. That will be increasing the cost too.
