I know info is sketchy at this point, but here's a question:
I have read that you can customize your character's housing, making an ogre house look like a cave, for instance. Has anyone heard if there will be any "racial style" restrictions? In other words, can my elf builder make a dwarf-style chair?
My guess is this will be handled by different patterns (Dwarven La-Z-Boy pattern, Halfling Footstool pattern, etc), especially since race-specific skills are not in at launch. Does anyone else have any speculation, or even *gasp* solid information? :)

No solid information.
But they have said multiple times that there will not be "cultural" tradeskills, it is likely that that will extend to the furniture too.
And really with furniture... anyone witht he proper skills can make any furniture :)
But an interesting idea :)

Yeah, my gut on this is that, as a builder, you will make "a chair", and the PC will be able to choose a style when he/she places said chair in their house.
Still, I think it would be cool to set yourself up as a "gnome-sized furniture specialist" or whatever. :)

I hope they don't just make it "a chair"
I hope you have "wooden chair", "plush chair", "throne" and such forth. DIferent types of chair.

Yeah, that's cool. With higher skill levels required for more ornate stuff.
It is my semi-educated guess that a chair won't just be any chair. While the most common example given to date on how tradeskills work is with a forge making a sword (why is it always a sword anyway?), I can see how events during the creation of the chair will affect it's appearance.
For instance, maybe one of the legs doesn't turn out right, so instead of a 4 legged chair, you end up with a 3 legged chair.
Or maybe the back of the chair didn't stay fastened, so now you've got a stool instead of a chair.
Or maybe the chair is made out of planks and solid, or maybe it's all dowels and slender.
In watching the Woodwright's Shop on PBS over the last decade or so, I've been surprised at the number of different styles and shapes chairs come in (among other crafting projects), some of which came about because of lack of resources or an 'accident' in the making that was an 'Ooooh' instead of an 'aww, nuts'.
To boil it all down, I really doubt every chair will end up looking the same...even at the starting levels. :)

All I got to say is that if it is just chair I will be so very disapointed. I am hoping as a crafter I can make incredible furniture and I have heard about being about to do plaques and such.
I am pretty much going to be a pure artisan and hope I get all I want out of it but if not I will be staying with SWG for awhile until another game gets me pumped up like EQ 2 is doing so far :)

SWG had a cool furniture system, there were several levels of furniture starting at your basic stuff which looked very industrial and not real homely, then as you work your way up you get more and more better looking furniture. I think the types of ingredients you use to make your furniture should directly affect the end look. For instance if you use ash and blue dyed apulstery you would end up with a light colored bench with blue padding, and may be during the process you can decide how much dye and or how much wood stain to put on to change the tints. Then your crafting ability would determine which designs you can use to craft the materials into.

it would be cool if we could make those lamps. The freeport objects in the text makes me think it is just objects about town. Would be great if it were both :)

ah saw that just now, i guess those are items litered about freeport to add to the feel. I wouldnt be suprised though if they used some city items as home decorations like they did in SWG. I wonder if faction will play a roll in what designs of stuff you can make like if good crafters make good themed furniture/items/ etc. and evil ones make like chairs with claws on them or whatever in like a evil theme. I think that would be pretty cool for Freeport fighters to be running around in like evil looking armor etc. and Qeynos guys could get paladin looking armor and good themed stuff.

And the rumored "black market" could help get those between cities. Would be cool :)
