View Full Version : Strongboxes and overflow

I've been hearing a persistent rumor that there is a "fix" coming so that boxes cannot be crafted into overflow, or will not go in overflow at all, or will weigh full weight in overflow, plus a few other variations on this.

However, I have not been able to find any evidence to substantiate the rumors. I always thought that the overflow thing was a special dispensation for boxes and bags, because otherwise they could not feasibly be made and sold, at least not without implementing something like the token system in EQ1.

Has anyone seen anything to substantiate or debunk the rumor?

There is no official post about it, but on the test server it is in fact like this as far as I can tell:

You can no longer craft with boxes/bags in overlfow (like other items).
Overflow items weigh their full amount.

So basically you are making a few boxes and trying to sell them. They will not be useful to lvl up on anymore because after a few you can't do anything after you make a few.

What will this mean? Box/Bag prices will probably shoot up because it'll be a hassle to work with them. I know I'll be raising my prices if someone wants to order because it'll be a pain in the rear and I don't wanna do them ;)

I made a killing off of Ash Strong boxes, and it was fun. Gotta say, though, now that I can do Briarwood, I find myself not wanting to bother. Even with overflow being as it is right now, it's still just a big bother.

Can you still trade items into overflow? I load up my vendor this way.

Obviously it is nasty enough not to be able to craft into overflow, but if I can't trade into overflow, then I have no way to buffer boxes for sale (other than bank slots). That would just kill the box market. I currently sell 20 to 40 briarwood boxes a day. That would drop to a trickle (and probably consume just as much time shuffling things around).

Edit: I posted on the main SOE test server forum, and got this post in reply: "Ok, for those commenting here who DON'T play on test. Backpacks and Boxes do indeed go into overflow, and you can keep making them. HOWEVER, the weight of the bags/boxes still gets added to you. "

Hmmm. I don't care about the weight. That is at worst a minor inconvenience. Maybe I just need to bite the bullet and level a test character to 5 and experiment.

That's good news to hear you can craft with them in present in overflow and drop them into overflow, the weight is a moot point...I can spend 5 mins walking to the inn room :)

I had heard different, so whoever told me could be wrong or they changed it after the outcry.

Of course, the lvl 45 boxes are bugged so I doubt I'll be making them anytime soon anyway.

Remember, changes on test are for just that; testing. They may or may not make it to the live servers in any form, let alone their current form.

A couple other people have replied to my post on the test server forum confirming that bags and boxes work on test the way they do on live, with the exception that they weigh what they ought to weight. This is good. :)

I do realize that things on test may or may not go live. However, the time to give feedback about the changes is while they are on test, not after they go live and would have to be backed out.

I do have a character on test, but I just haven't had the time to devote any energy to tradeskills there. Next time they have to rollback the live servers, I'll spend some time on him.

Greetings,

I knew it was going to happen sooner or later since being able to craft as many containers you wanted into Overflow was just too good to be true. If strongboxes in OF are going to weigh their full amount, I forsee a massive Kallah Krafted Klearance on the 184 Briarwood Strongboxes I have in there right now. Hmm. Perhaps we should form a support group: The League of Rooted Carpenters!

As some of the others have pointed out, this is really going to turn off most Carpenters from making boxes (and perhaps Tailors from making bags). I wonder if some/one/any of the suggestons folks have made to making containers less a hassle will be implimented to off set these new changes?

Bear in mind, you should still always be able to move, regardless of your weight. Plus if they implement selling from the tradeskill instances, then you can just hobble your way to the seller's board instead of having to hobble to your apartment. Heh. :D

As Zendaken pointed out, you can always move. In addition, if you sprint you actually move at a reasonable pace (faster than a walk, but slower than a run). I did this last night with 6 boxes in my trader's primary slots (600+ weight over 15 strength). I don't suspect it gets any worse than that when the overflow bags are added in.

My only concern about this is how I'm going to transport bags from Freeport for sale in Qeynos (those Qeynosians box sellers are greedy money grubbers, I tell ya!). I don't fancy crawling through Nek forest at encumbered speed, and sprint breaks my invis (and doesn't last long enough in any case). If only the harbormaster would sell me a key, I could go via Zek. But, alas!, I'm only adventurer level 24, so he won't.

Here's what I'd do:

Find a friend you trust in the other city who can go to you outside your city and has Call of Qeynos / Call of the overlord ready.

Have them meet you outside the city. Load them up. They hit COQ/COL and go home. Then they zone out of the city while you run through Nek/TS to meet them. They load you back up. You sell for a bit. When you grow bored, you COQ/COL back home.

But it requires a friend who you trust to gate your boxes there for you. Or, if you have a second computer and account, you can make an oppoising aligned character to do it...
