I just dinged lvl 20 jeweler :D , so I went to do something in my specialty. I see the Carbonite bar on my list, and decide to try those. I head to the workbench, since I have been refining electrum there, and it tells me to go to the forge. Okay, no problem, I make iron bars there, too.

When I get to the forge and begin the process, the metalworking reactions start, and catch me off guard. Then I check the recipe and see it's not artificing/runecraft, it's metalworking/weaponsmith.

?????

I know it's not a mistake (the recipe). However, we haven't worked with anything since tin that way. What's the chance of making these pristine quality without metalworking skills near our artificing levels?

I have a guildie that is a weaponsmith, so it wouldn't be a huge issue. But it is going to hinder me if I can't make this stuff top quality, isn't it? At least make me dependent?

I get pristines probably 20% of the time, give or take. It doesnt bother me at all because nothing I make requires a carbonite, feyiron, etc, product as the primary component - so quality doesnt matter. I believe there may be a few recipes for professions outside of Jeweler that require primary components we make of these materials, in those cases I simply state that if I make the bars there's no guarantee on quality. If they provide the bars, then they will get back exactly what they provide in terms of quality.

That's probably true. I guess I got used to making pristine (for pride and xp), leveling up, and didn't consider the fact that a lot of what we make doesn't need to be pristine, even the things we sell to others. There is a "stigma' out there, though, that pristine is best, and can sell better. I know better now, but alot of others still don't. Hell, I won't worry about it. It just freaked me out, since I was expecting to pull off carbonite bars, np, after dinging.

Welcome to the life of an armorer. Our bars use metalworking also (the weaponsmith skill) and while we have tier two reactions as outfitters it's still a problem. And those bars ultimately go into the materials that are our primary components. That, and even the interim stage for our primary components uses metalworking. :(

I'm told it's a bug. Iron bars for jewlers use artificing. Then carbonite use metalworking again? It seems wrong. I anticipate a fix, though I'm not entirely holding my breath it will be soon.

Hope that helps.

It is a pain. Personally i am of the opinion that if the recipie is in my book, it should use my skills. /sigh
