Hello,

I just hit Lvl 20 and became a sage. I scribed my Lvl 20 Essentials Sage book and found that the so called essentials were not all there. I was looking for the recipe and dependancies for Carbon Ink. Can someone help me with what book this comes out of and what lvl so I can know what to look out for plz.

Thanks,
Khana

Sorry, you're a victim of interdependency. Try looking up your friendly neighborhood Alchemist. I'm sure they would hook you up with some ink for a hefty sum.

(Meaning you can't make ink, only Alchemists can, sorry.)

Carbon Ink is made by alchemists. They have the same recipe make up like the tier 2 and 1 ink only you need teir 3 material, agate or gold

its kinda funny how sages are at the mercy of alchemists and craftsman.. not sure if there the ones that make paper.. but shesh.. i cant buy a carbon ink for less then 30s atm.. and i cant sell app3's for that so im ScrewED! guess ill work on my craftsman to get him up farther so i can make paper for my sage but still damit why so high for ink?

OMG this is getting insane.. i was crafting for a few hours tonight and i couldnt get 1 carbon ink for under 20s... and most of the ppl are charging like 75silver - 1gold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i cant belive this ... they prob dont sell any at that price but i mean cmon! u can barly sell the app3 spells for 50s and thats getting lucky and the quill/paper cost 15s around each.. so thats another 30s.. so add that together and u get 75s for carbon ink+ quill/paper=about 1g for every app3 lol... but you can find ink for around 25s each most of the time but still thats still 50s u have to charge for it to even break even.... i mean cmon they have to do somthing to stop the price gouging... i wish i could make something that is needed by alchemists to make the **** ink PLZ GOD!!

I would say 25s for a carbon ink is quite reasonable. Inks are a total PAIN to make. for a stack of 20 it takes 75 combines. By comparison a stack of Wash/Resin/etc takes only 5 combines.

Make a friend with your local alchemist, or bribe a guildy, or just level up an alchemist to 20. Ink is the hardest component to make that we need. But that doesnt mean we have to overpay for it.

People may be 'selling' ink on the broker for around 1 gold each, but is it really selling? I think not :D

OOC.

Even as a Sage, having also made plenty of ink now with Aurielle, my sympathies are actually with the alchemists. Ink is a horror amongst horrors to make, it is truely hateful. I hate making ink even for myself. So I'm not surprised to see it being sold rarely, and for quite a high price when it is sold.

However, for the alchemist short of money who wants to make ink, carbon ink is likely to be a good seller at this point in most servers development.

on MM ink is 25 to 30 sp quills 15 sp and paper 10 sp.spells sells for 75 to 1 gp.

tier 4 ink is 40 to 50 sp quills 30 to 35 sp and paper 25 sp.spells sell for 3 to 5 gp.

tier 4 ink is 40 to 50 sp quills 30 to 35 sp and paper 25 sp.spells sell for 3 to 5 gp.
So at tier 4 sages are making ~2-4g for a single combine.

I agree with Liandra, inks are a PITA in the extreme. You have to do 3 seperate combines for each one, and pray that they turn out pristine cause no Sage wants non-pristine inks. So you end up doing more than your 60 combines to make your stack of ink cause you are going to miss pristine on a few of them. Those have to be vendored to recoup some costs.

Now if we could find someone to sell loam too we could offset the costs that way...

(I'm talking about t3 here, btw.... haven't gotten to 4 yet.)

The problem is not with the ink selling for too much, but with some of the spells selling for too little. All the adept drops really kill the option of trying to sell some spells.

It would definitely hurt to spend out a good 40 silver for quills, paper, and ink, only to find that the Adept spell sells for 5 silver (in which case of course you'll never sell the apprentice version at 50s... might as well fork over to NPC vendor). Of course I think the higher you go in tier the less you're going to see of this. Until of course, perhaps, the overall population begins to hunt high areas and get the drops for those just as frequently. I guess time will tell on that.

If you're lucky, work with a guild who you can trade goods amongst so you won't go in the negative just to get parts to work on things.

Sages are not making 2-4 gold for one combine for tier 4 spells...

1. Sages are making a lot of spells that just don t sell because of adepts that are found and sold a lot cheaper => when you pay around 1 gold for material and the spell doesn t sell...that hurts a lot.

2. Sages are very limited in selling spells because it s difficult to find the ink...we barely get what we need to level. In no way we can flood the market with tons of spells.

3. spells that are not app4 doesn t sell easily now...it means if we don't succeed, we can throw it away...=> again a one gold loss

4. Sages cannot make subcomponents themselves (patterns need components from other classes too) and sell them to other classes...that s really our only way to get money and it means the demand is a lot lower than for example washes, oils, resins, ...

So, the idea that sages are making a big benefit is wrong.

I just want something, anything really, that I can make for any exp that doesnt require 2 items from 2 different crafter types. I just want to be able to harvest, buy the fuel, and go at it for a scrap of exp for those times where ink is impossible to find(seems to be happening more often than not).
