Skilling up above Skill Caps

Okies, Here's another question for folks. Tell me what you know...

I've noticed on a couple different skills (tailoring, chemistry), that I have skilled up above my base, I.E. 92 base tailor and i'm up to 95 now - the base moved. Chemistry, I'm 47 of 45 - strange I thought.

Anywho, I wanted your thoughts/knowledge on the subject.

1. How far can you go beyound your skill cap for your main skills (i.e. tailoring)?
2. How far you go beyound your non main skills? I.e. Chemisty?

I posted a similar question on General last week. Apparently, your skill cap increases by 1 every 20% of a level you get.
