In addition to the cries about being able to process raw materials , and "easily" being able to skill up , heres another thing to cry about. Most people i meet at least , are broke , and i mean grey armor , crappy spells and not a pot to piss on.

Example , i zone into commons and auction grim spellbinder app3 , this necro sends me a tell , real excited ooh ooh i want how much plz . /tell newb 50s for tier 3 spells newb tells you Holy @#$ i cant afford that =( . Later i went to meet someone else at the griff station near nektulos , and he was there on top afk , maybe takin a break or whatever , i inspected him. Level 24 necro , still wearing pants and shoes from isle of refuge , the robe you get when you become a necro , awakened ring of valmarr , basically ALL grey gear , complete garbage , and this guy has literally no cash. And this is just an example its not just him.

Majority of the people that send me tells when i auction tier 3 spells dont buy them because 50s is too much to spend. Now look at it like this
In an average day you could sell maybe 4 or 5 tier 3 spells if you push them. so lets see here i sell them for 50s a pop to non guild , i pay 15s for paper and quill from a good friend. and 10s for ink from another good friend . Thats 25s profit . Which is a good profit ratio , if it was less then 50% i wouldnt craft.

Now lets look at tier 2 spells , i can make the ink , i can make the paper on my craftsman / quills too. I forget the cost offhand for all the stuff but its low. i sell the completed product for 12s , thats like 8 silver profit . So the ratio is much much bigger on low level spells. And because they sell for less , they sell fast , and when i mean they sell fast oh boy ! So in a day , if i want to make alot of cash , sadly , i make goddam tier 2 spells , which blows goats because EVERYTHING is trivial. So whats the benefits of making tier 3 spells? gaining skill is it !@ ! imagine that , i have to get stuff from other ppl just to make it , and you get like 2-3% in a level from each spell , which is cool if you could make stacks and stacks , which you wont .

My experience has led me this far , everytime im in tradeskill instance i say this /ooc Trading canvas patterns for canvas threads even trade. Tailors need tons of patterns to skill up 22+ and i mean tons. And you need tons of these garbage patterns for you to skill up as well. So meet some tailors , this dependency garbage is in full effect people. I work with about 5 tailors atm , and the only limitation is beladonna roots . Which are required to make the thread , alchemist made resin also you need but thats roots too.

Bottom line? in my eyes , it pays to make tier 2 spells for cash for now . And just grind these stupid patterns. Hopefully changes will incur in the long run making the "average player" more wealthy , cause there is a tremendous unbalance between the crafter and the non crafter , look at me for example , im 22 inquis with full suit of pristene crafted armor , weapon and jewelry , 60g in the bank. Average level 22 that dont craft has like 22 silver on him and grey armor =( not trying to brag but this is the sad truth.

I find that most non-crafters are poor as well... however...

1. They generally have more flaggs than I do
2. They generally have seen many more battles than I have
3. They generally have done many more quests than I have

So, they see more but earn less....
What gets me is when I /auc extra spells I have... I always get at least ONE like this:

/AUC WTS XX Spell 45s
/reply Ooh, nice... is that the adept 3 version?
:)

I feel like replying...
ooh ya... I pay a few gold for the rare to make it and usually take a loss... they cost the same Adept 3 or Apprentice 3

I dont feel sorry for non-crafters being poorer than I am. I put alot of time and energy into crafting - Goddess knows I dont get much back from it, so if I gain a little money from it then so be it. Any one of those poor non-crafters can pick up a tradeskill at any time. IMO everyone should be doing some sort of tradeskill anyway for this system to work well. This system is great in the since that you can start tradeskilling and make a little money just selling back to merchants as an Artisan so they can't complain that they don't have any any money to start out.... you can spend an hour or 2 in the newbie areas and harvest supplies (Its even easier now than when I went through - most have already done it so the areas arent as crowded now with harvesters) then start making things... within a few hours you can have an artisan to L10 and a couple gold in your pocket just selling back to the merchants.

I spent about 4 hours making tin bars, packs, and a few scrolls, with one of my twinks and had L10 by the time I was done. Having a higher L Sage I really didnt spend much time harvesting the newbie areas, I just bought the stuff I needed from the broker but I did spend a little time doing it so I know the areas aren't near as full, plus there are about 10 instances during peek playing times that could be harvested. In the end I had my twinks bank full of pack for herself, app3 spells and a couple gold to boot. And other than buying the harvest items with my main I spent only my twinks income to get that.

If a player can't afford to pay 50s for one of my tier 3 spells then too bad. They can be less effecient in their grps and wonder why their spells dont do as much damage/effects/what-have-ya....If they are too lazy to put forth the work to make the cash, then I am too lazy to make trivial stuff for them.
Im already having to compete with the game dropping some of the more common ADT1 scrolls like candy on halloween, Im not gonna waste my time or energy on someone too lazy to pick up a tradeskill and make a little cash for themselves.

I think tier 3 is the first real level where you can expect to make money from spells. It also might pay to see what classes have special spells that everyone wants to upgrade (aoe for mage types, heals for priests, etc). It also might pay to travel to the zones where those people are doing AQ quests. People in commons and Nek are broke because those zones suck a**. You might want to pop into FG or EW to do an /auc if you are on the evil side and whatever the equiv is for goodies if you are a goodie.

I currently sell adept 1 for 30s (merchant buyback at 16sp) or 1gp (merchant buyback at 67sp) and barely move either so I don't think sage is ever gonna get rich selling spells until they can start crafting adept 2 with common components (which i doubt) and masters level.

I think this is totally false. You probably had some bad luck. I auction WW stuff regularly and get those same kind of responses, but I get a bunch of others that are willing to buy. Or broker sales.

Also, friends who do not craft have plenty of money. (5-15gp range).

I also get those people who say 'you're insane' and just ignore them. It does build my confidence to know I have already sold several at a particular price.

Imo, you should double the material cost of your product and get a bit extra for each class dependencies you need. At tier3 I add about 10sp for each item requiring a non-woodworker. Dropped prices do have a tendency to under-value crafter items. I wish that dropped items had a higher sell back to NPC. Like tier3 adept1 = 1-1.5gp

Adventurers equal to the level of my sage level (32 at present) generally have more cash than I do. I know this for a fact, and its particularly interesting because my adventure level is 31, which would suggest tradeskills actually net.. negative cash. Go go sagery!

eh, wanted to mention that my adventure friends are right around the 20 range +/- 5 levels.
