View Full Version : Other ways of getting books...

Have we tested all of the books sold in the Mages tower in South Qeynos? I am wondering if there are books - or books as a result of questing through those books - that we can get there? Also, I have noticed that ANY object you find in game can become an item to click on. Sometimes clicking an itme gets you something - usually another quest. I found a stack of books in the Down Below - which leads me to think that it might be possible to click on some forgotten stack of books down in some out of the way dungeon and finding a lost/forgotten tome of Artisan...etc. Ideas?
Might be an interesting route to pursue, though I doubt we'll find anything rare in the merchant bought books. :) Still, I do have a Goblin Eye that I picked up on the Isle that's supposedly used for researching more about Goblins, so maybe those books are what I need to deal with Goblins (not that I've seen any goblins around Qeynos though).

Actually the goblin eye is one of many goblin parts to learn goblin mastery. The quest itself is started by reading a book (sold on the IoR and maybe elsewhere) called 'Living as a Goblin' or something like that. The book is actually a pretty entertaining read about a 'researcher' who lives among the Goblins in disguise to learn more about them. After you finish reading the book a quest begins to learn more about Goblins by studying their various parts. It's done pretty much like the collection quests, but in the case of the mastery quests, you supposedly get a boost when fighting Goblins after completing the quest. I think the scribe in Willow Wood, and the other villages, sells that and some other mastery books.

Isn't that one of the anatomical pieces needed for Goblin mastery? There are 8 pieces for goblins needed. For casters, this gives you a goblin only nuke that hits HARD. It gives melee types a special attack doing way more than normal damage. Almost any book with a creature type in the title is in fact a quest to collect the specific pieces to obtain mastery of those types of creatures. I have completed gnoll Mastery and I am working on Skeletons and Zombies at the moment. Also, i reads somewhere that once you finish those books they become an item that you can place on your bookshelves inside your house/apt.
Vermin's Snye is an excellent example of 'clickable' objects. I think I got about 6 quests just clicking on items as I walked down the first hallway.... these objects were boxes that you see everywhere in the zone...or a desk...or a coffin..etc.
Hmmm Grei? Are you an outfitter? Should I just save my time raising my outfitter and give you my Blackened Iron books?
No, I'm a Scholar at the moment (hence why I was hoping for something research oriented and not just something to get a better attack or nuke). ;)
I got stuck starting a new character since Grei got caught in one of the many zone issues going on at the moment and started on the Goblin Mastery quest wtih my Scoutkitty. No idea if I'm going to be sticking with him or just use him to farm low level resources...but it's been nice going back and catching a few things I didn't do the first time around while I was more overwhelmed.

The books near the Nettleville Howel merchant are part of the InnKeeper Valean quest in Castleview Hamlet.

The books in S Qeynos are all quests.
The books listing monsters are Mastery quests that give you a big attack against the chosen enemy but has a long reuse timer. So far I have completed Goblin, Skeleton, and Golem.
The other books are also quests mostly dealing with Venyl Sythe(sp?) I completed the Rat Queen book and was rewarded with a chunk of exp and the book became a placeable item that visitors to my room can read. This was a 10 step quest.. I was realy hoping for something a bit nicer for all that work and 12s to start the quest.
I have started 6 other books but have yet to do more than step one of any of them.

The books you find to get enemy mastery skills - are they the same as the
quests adventures will get as Moorgard mentioned below in the update 10-19-04?
During your adventuring career, you’ll be able to learn about the creatures and monsters you’re fighting and use that knowledge to your advantage.
Every few levels, players may choose from a selection of enemies and undertake a quest to learn how to exploit their weaknesses. The successful completion of this quest results in an enhanced attack against that type of enemy.
By the time they’ve reached level 50, every character will gain access to six enemy masteries to help tailor their character to their preferred play style.
I plan on adventuring and trying tradeskills... does this mean I can master more enemies?

That brings up a good question there. I kind of thought maybe your moves would work better against certain enemies but it seems the way he says it there is a new way to get more creature attacks.
Hmmmmmmmm

But how to choose which ones if you can only do 6?
Being new to this stuff I wonder if there are more than 6 types of mobs and if not choosing the "right" monster to quest at a given level will hamper you in the future?
But then again, I know next to nothing about it.

I don't know that I would have selected gnoll mastery in this case. Certainly Skeleton. Probably Orc. Probably zombie too. Definately Human, Oger, troll, Ikky, etc. given that option... ;)

Moorguard made a new post regarding enemy tactics

It sounds like you may get the tomes at specific levels instead of buying them or finding them now???

Sounds to me like different maneuvers than the mastery one in effect now. It seems like a nice little add on to me. Just hope I am fighting the mobs I pick for at least a few levels :)

I'm confused.....
Are the mastery quests shown in the above quote the same or different than the current set of mastery quests?
If they are the same, then I found a bug that seemed minimal but with this info makes it really bad.

the books in the down below are a quest that is given by the innkeeper in castleview. his books were stolen and a merchant in the down below was selling them. i've yet to get down there though.
also thanks for the heads up on putting books on your bookshelves. i didn't even think of that. and i had no idea that i could buy more books. i just hadn't seen any since i got in qeynos but there's still so much i don't know. :)

You can actually put your artisan books on a bookshelf in your home? That is so neat. :) Just for aesthetic reasons?

Not the artisan books, but some of the other books, once you have completed the quest within them, you can stick them on the shelf.
And as for the curent mastery books you can buy, it looks like it will be changed from purchasable, to something you just choose and get.

Ah yes, the Tome quests. I remember reading about that from before. Thanks for the reply, Ngreth. :)
