Could someone please enlighten me as to the difference in these two items? So far I have found them to work interchangably in terms of making temper and satisfying wholesaler quests. I'm still wondering about other usages however, ink especially. Any information would be helpful, as I'm convinced there must be at least some difference otherwise why two items? :)

The agate geode is a quest reward item from in Blackburrow. Not sure why it's a separate item, but I verified it in both neolith tempers and hexanoid reagent before I added it to the items and sources part of the db in prep for when I get to adding the tier 3 recipes.
There are a few odd things off mobs that work in place of harvested items, as well (such as in place of iron clusters).
Not sure why, in this case, they made it a separate item if they were going to make it No Value just like the harvested stuff, but given that quests are done by different folks than the tradeskills, the "why" may be a simple cut and paste issue without proper communication. ;)

I just received those geodes from the quest.
What am I to do with them?

Just use them like regular agates. I refined mine no problem.
I imagine SoE put them in early to test out the viability of giving people tradeskill stuff as a reward for later on in game. Say when you complete a huge quest and they can give you three rares as a quest item instead of making you mine a node, so you can make what you want instead of a caster getting some crappy sword.
