Do we all agree?
Tier3 -
depending on the carbonite bar we get:
1 pristine bar - 3sp for reasource, 2sp temper, getting a weaponsmith to make
3 arrow heads - 2sp temper
-------
3 arrows heads = 7/3 or about 2.x sp each
1 fletching - 1 root, 2 alch components = 7sp
1 stave - 1 ash,2 alch components = 7sp
For a total of a little over 16sp. We can sell the scraps to make up some cash since it requires no extra work, but not going to turn all my scraps into turned ash personally. :p
The nice thing is that it only requires carbonite bars from another class, though they should be pristine for the best bang for your buck.
Still, that is 16sp for 20 arrows. Iirc I can buy carbonite arrows in nek forest for under 50c?
Also, as a dirge, using my new long bow and these arrows I couldn't hit for much at all :p Even with greys. I used the round point. I might try the ones that have a better chance of hitting but do less damage.

It's been my experience that most of the quality of a ranged weapon is in the weapon itself (bow, pouch, whatever) and that the consumable item (arrow, dagger, etc.) is of minor benefit if at all. Until someone can prove to me otherwise, I'm keeping my bow up to date and buying tin arrows off the merchant for 2c each.

Do the hunting arrows have a longer range? They seem to in practice, but I haven't seen any factual info on it.

They describe the different arrows as just having various accuracy vs. damage.
Rounded are higher damage but less accurate (note I barely hit anything with them :p)
Normal are normal :p
Hunting are more accurate but less damage.

I am pretty sure I've noticed a difference. Try some grey mobs and switch between tin arrows and carbonite arrows. Both can be bought from merchants.

Anyone have the stats on the arrows? I have seen pictures on Alakhazam and they were all blank. All it said was "Iron Hunting Arrow" slot, condition and weight. Am I missing something?
thanks,

You're not missing anything, Q, that's all they say, except for a brief description (no stats).
There's an enormous difference, Korsis. You have to use arrows from your "Tier" of adventure level to get maximum benefit from your bow. However, there's a threshold somewhere in the Tier + 2-3 level range or so, where the arrows you were using drop dramatically in damage. Example: I tried carbonite arrows at level 22 and they did the same damage as the iron I had been using. But a couple levels later, iron arrows dropped down to ~40 damage range and carbonite jumped up to 100+.
And to answer the original topic, no, there's no reason whatsoever. Crafted iron (and carbonite, and maybe the rest, not there yet) arrows do less damage than comparable store-bought and are insanely expensive to make.
I always checked the broker for ammunition, and found a poor woodworker selling his finely crafted arrows one day... for 3sp each. I sent him a tell, wondering if he thought that was for a stack, or what. And he said no, he was just trying to recoup his costs. I went to his room and out of pity and curiosity bought 20 of each of the three kinds of carbonite he made. Went out into the field along with 20 of the store-bought carbonite and started plugging same level (12) orcs for testing. While it was a pretty small sample size, the store bought arrows outdamaged every crafted version by 30% - 50%, on every single shot. This was very similar to my findings for crafted iron arrows versus purchased when I was a craftsman, and was one of the reasons I gave up my dream of being a woodworker and went into Provisioning...
It's very definitely broken, and I urge you all to /bug it like I have. After all, didn't you hear the provisioners screaming when the holiday food went up for sale? Same deal. Better than what they could make, for less.
Instead of selling the shafts, you're getting one :D

Wouldn't Pointless Arrows be, well, pointless?
<rereads thread topic>
OHHHH. Sorry, carry on. :D
it's not even worth it to exp on arrows. i found out that making arrow heads is more worth it than anything.
Also when you sell back arrows it's 53c per arrow to vender, buying a feyiron arrow in zek is like 1s and a few copper.
But if you sell a 20 stack of arrows thats 10s... (what you would make on a pristine arrow combine) but if you sell 1 arrowhead it's 16s... of which you get 3 of if you make pristine.(i get the bad bars that ppl make so i always make regular arrowheads of 2)
not to mention that it takes... 6subcomine clicks just to make 1 stack of arrows.

I group with a Ranger in my guild, he has the ability to pull arrows from mobs during fights. he supplies me with all the feyiron arrows i can handle.
The feyiron arrows seem to do alot more damage than the tin ones.
As a 24 Woodworker I feel like the arrows we can make are a waste of time, effort and money. Even though I am biased b/c i dont want the Ranger to get nerfed and stop giving me full stacks of free arrows.

Do you mean a Ranger can rip arrows straight off the mob's flesh?

Theres a Ranger Skill called "rip". Damages the target and gives you an arrow, as you rip an arrow out of the targets flesh, says the description. I dunno if you have to shoot one in first, to rip it out.
