Carbonite Rods, made from carbonite plate, ash staves and shods. Do you think this is a bug? None of the items are made by the Weaponsmith. We need to make this on the Woodworkers table, yet the counters are Weaponry.

Works fine. We make the weapon, though we get all the interims from others. We make it on sawhorse, but we get to use our best counters/buffs. It makes sense, considering the weapon.

Not a bug, and not the only recipe out there like that. (Another example would be the two canvas rugs that Craftsmen get, where all three sub-parts are made by Outfitters, then the Craftsmen, masters of the woodworking and tools, get to wander over to the sewing table and use their fletching skill to turn it into a rug.)
Basically, it's a weapon, you get to munge everything into the final weapon, regardless of what equipment is used ... it's just got a bit more dependency than you see in most of your other recipes.

As a carpenter, have this happen a lot, hehe... paintings and rugs that we make are made completely out of subcombines we don't. At least tier 2, haven't looked at tier 3 yet.

I guess it just didn't make sense to me. Also, there is a small bug to it. You need to use a shaped carbonite plate to get pristine rod, not a pristine carbonite plate.

Seems as though it is not just carbonite plates that are bugged. I had an Iron Chandelier made for my home last night and I was only able to obtain a crude plate to make it with (I could have sworn I had the recipe in my outfitter book but apparently I don't) but that crude plate allowed our guild caprenter/woodworker (she two boxes both at the same time /boggle) to make the chandelier at pristine.

This recipe and the level 25 Carbonite Knuckles recipes are indeed bugged as follows:
Each recipe requires Carbonite Plate as the main component. If you use a Pristine Carbonite Plate, the best you can make is Forged Carbonite Knuckles - you don't get the pristine bar in the combine window.
If you use a Shaped Carbonite Plate, you can make Pristine Carbonite Knuckles - yes, just the same way armorers can only make pristine items using shaped plates, these two recipes work the same way.
I made a batch of each item just last night to confirm this.
Upon further consideration, this is not as big a deal as I originally thought it was - I dunno about y'all, but I've found it impossible to sell the fist-skill weapons anyway - even marked down to 30 silver for pristine Carbonite. So it would be nice if this and the other monk-type weapon recipes were fixed, but to be honest I don't plan on making more anyway.

Aye, the bug with the plates is with the Plates themselves, not with any of the recipes. The DB has them shifted, so that a Pristine Plate is actually labeled to the UI as Shaped.
And Fist-Weapons sell at a decent price, albeit slowly. So I don't keep many in stock.
