This is just to talk about the ad banner at the top.

We are not looking to get rich, and ads certainly will not do that, we are looking to recoup costs. So we are going to experiment with ads. The donations work in spurts and sometimes we just don't get enough, and we are leaving them for people that wish them. We will NOT be making it so ads don't show up for people that donate. We are using the boards here as a first test.

We chose the Ads by Google becasue it gives ads that are targeted to the content on the page. We feel that that is more fitting, and may even get people things they want.

Now. We DO disaprove of sites selling platinum and in game items for real life money... SO... if you see such a site on the ads above, post the url in this thread and I will keep adding them to the "banned ad" list. There will be a bunch in the beginning, but I will be going through them and cleaning them up a bit :) It takes a few hours after I have entered them for the ads to be blocked.

With regards to the ads and the fact that not all are EQ-related, the issue is that it is context/subject sensitive in the ads it pulls up, and, for example, the House Ogre threads sometimes call up ads on real houses, etc. :)

Sometimes, some of the odd links are interesting, such as wolf totems when I was posting something in the totem thread, and such. We'll keep an eye out and see how it goes.

While Yahoo is a very reputable site the shopping end is merely a place for people to sell stuff, as a matter of fact the only time I have been defrauded by an internet company was when I made a purchase through shopping.yahoo.com, the "comapny" billed me for hundreds of dollars once they had my info from a legit purchase, I had to cancel my bank account and all sorts of things, and the bank did not protect me from the losses because they could not contact the business, which is what happened to me, I only got an answering machine.

I had made other purchases through shopping.yahoo.com and they were fine and wonderful, but it only takes one bad one to ruin it all for me.

As for language packs being annoying... I find them annoying because you have to download it (which can take time on slow connections) only to see a site you can't exactly read. Just a personal preferance thing, I suppose.
