Level 25 Sage i made 10 Dazzling Seal (Apprentice III). The reward was 1gp 44sp. No bonus XP. I earned 1.75% XP per spell(17.5% total) in the process of making them. My society's XP (The Heralds of K'Lorn) looked like it moved 1%.
Now i don't have a real concept of cost for my spells because i don't pay for supplies. i trade alot of raw materials to people for the ink and quill and paper. I know i can sell tier III spells on the player market for way more than 14.4sp, but not anywhere near as fast as i can make them. nor in the quantities i need to level. Depending on the day, you can see tier III paper, ink, and quills on the broker for about 15sp total. Some day's you don't see any. so even for peopel buying off the broker, at least on Befallen, the tasks will keep you around a brak even point. with the extra's you make to sell to players earning you profit.
Being a sage i was able to take all my combines to pristine for max xp. It is my understanding that other people have to turn in shaped items, and this would seriously hurt the xp worth of making white con recipes.
edit: i did a second one and had to make 10 Grisly Mark, same rewards. I checked the merchant before i turned them in. he offered me 12sp(1.2gp total) for them. so the workshop task is a better option than a merchant.

as a provisioner, workshop tasks are by far the quickest way to make money. At level 26, I'm getting lvl 25 & 26 tasks, ok making to "shaped" quality isn't as good exp as making to "pristine" but still exp comes in. and tier 3 = 1g44s.. for not a lot of cost..

just checked a broker for current pricing since i figure if i'm opening my mouth i might as well get more number right than wrong.. and prices are up to 10sp per quill and paper. Only one ink was for sale at 25sp.. this reinforces my opinion of building relationships and trading is the only way to go..

I finished my task, but had to sell some to make room in my inventory. When i went to turn them in i didn't get credit. do i need to have all 10 on me?

Yes. You must have all the items on you, in order to turn them in.

I take it now after the patch they will be asking for App2 spells so you won't get the good xp

My experience with workshops is a bit disappointing. I have been doing wholesaler tasks on and of for a nice 12 sp income. And when making the ranks of craftsman some time ago I was happy to find the tasks also available for the workshop. However, when completing my first workshop task I was a bit dissapointed to find I only recieved 9 sp (task was 10 JumJum Beer). Now I realise, it is a Tier 1 task and I did recieve tradeskill exp while making the items, so probably the coin is a offset for that.
But, since I read that workshop tasks could provide me a 40-50 sp reward I was a bit dissapointed. So I guess my question is when I will recieve tier 2 workshop tasks to really get me going on the money? I am a lvl 13 craftsman atm, with the major portion of my time adventuring.

The thing that really annoys me about these is that as a Jeweler I always get asked to do runes. I NEVER get asked to do jewelry. If i did get asked for jewelry I would do alot more of these. As it is I just keep asking for a new one every time i pass in the hope that one day i might get one.

For Jewelers it depends on the level I think. Sometimes I had to do Jewelery, sometimes I get asked to do Runes, which of course I never did, changed all the time till I got Jewelery again.

it is really not worth doing workshop tasks until you are past the mid-point of your tier. then you can be sure of getting a task for items of your tier, which can pay quite nicely.
however, if you think the tradeoff of time and materials to experience and coin is worth it, by all means, go for it.
