I had not seen a general post here for a kind of summary of how to level to and into a weaponsmith so I created this for all of our to be and maybe current weaponsmiths to help out on and contribute to.

How to Level a WeaponSmith
Zijid - Explorers of Legend, Najena
38 Qeynos Troll Weaponsmith

Here is how I became a weaponsmith since I have had a few requests on how I have done it and another request to post a guide.

Artisan
1) I went pure adventure when I hit IoR. When I got to the mainland it auotdinged me to lv 3 artisan.

2) I then adventured up to lv 21 guardian not knowing that in the future this would help me as Fighters will have the most HP’s and the forge has hit me for up to 610dmg in health at one time. Dieing at the forge seems fairly common although I have never died due to the amount of HP’s I have. /cry Joeble dying at the forge

3) I then took 50s and just bought all the components I needed to go from lv 3 artisan to lv 10 outfitter. I did this by crafting food items, mainly Spice and all Deer dishes. Deer pasta, Deer steaks, Deer sandwiches. This will give you food to eat for awhile to so it doesn’t hurt. I would buy the fuel and deer steaks and pasta/spice etc off of the vendor and for 50s to move 7 levels in about 10hrs was easy. You can probably do less.

Outfitter
At level 10 I went outfitter and the outfitter society in WillowWood -Najena. As of this moment (12/10/04) the Wholesaler will still be good as you now can purchase T2 tempers/resins/washes etc. I harvested much of my own resources.

1) At level 10 I made a ton of Iron bars
2) For level 11-13 I made boxes for my bank/weapons and experimented with all the different recipes (making new recipes will give you bonus crafting XP so it is important to craft all of your new recipes each level)
3) 13-16 I made or attempted to make pristine tanned backpacks making all of the subcombines and you can sell these on the broker for a nice price to. I also continued to make iron weapons and all the new recipes I received each level.
4) 16-20 I started on the outfitter workshop tasks. These are great as it gives you a goal and money at the end (T2 = 36s T3= 1gp 44s and status points). I of course did all of my subcombines up to the finished product so the xp moved fairly well. With the new changes to NPC vendors I recommend the workshop tasks as a way to grind xp and make money.

Welcome to WeaponSmith
At level 19 you need to talk to the Ironforge lady (forgot the name) in Qeynos Harbor. She is not on the docks but next to a building just inside from the docks on the right as you arrive in from the mariner bell. Make close friends with a Jeweler (carbonite Pommels, Studs and Gold Ornaments) , Alchemist (Neolith Tempers by the 100’s, Thy Washes and Resins for the Boiled Hilts) and Woodworker( Ash Staves) as you will need them heavily for leveling up from here on out.

1) At 20 I started working on refining carbonite into bars/spikes etc and making boiled hilts.
2) At 21 I took a workshop task and got lucky making 10 of my new lv 21 weapon recipe. So I grinded out those weapons and various testing of the new recipes and trying to make pristine weapons.
3) At 22 I made just a ton of weapons and continued to try to make pristine. This challenge was fun and hardly noticed that the xp was moving nicely. The higher quality items you make the more xp per item you receive. [Personal Note: One thing here that I personally would like SOE to change is for the Workshop Tasks giver to take shaped up to Pristine then we could max our xp to resource usage as the better the item the more xp we get so in essence we are leaving xp on the table when we have to stop at shaped items.]
4) At 23 I continued workshop tasks and made weapons for people. The xp flies when you are helping others out since you don’t worry about the xp just the end product.
5) 24-29 I grinded out on even con weapon recipes for each level.
6) 30-38 At lv 30 you get the Feyiron Tulwar recipe which is a lv 38 recipe. When I was not creating a new recipe each level I was grinding out Tulwars since it was the highest lv weapon I could make and therefore would max the xp per item. In the 30's I have bought everything from the broker and still make enough to keep crafting and buying from the broker.

Recap on my Crafting Tips:
1) Use your outfitter and higher workshop tasks for xp and money
2) Make close personal friends with a Jeweler/Woodworker/Alchemist
3) Always get Neolith tempers by the 100’s. Thy Resins and Washes by the stacks.
4) You level 10 Tradeskill abilities increase durability (at cost to your power) in weapons and your level 20 abilities increase progression (no cost to your power) You can use all 6 at the same time and mix and match to make pristine, but usually just the progression ones are good enough.
5) Workshop Tasks T2 = 36s and T3 = 1gp 44s.
6) Check the broker often around 10pm-1am CST and 6am-8am CST. It seems at this time there are excellent buys on carbonite clusters. Remember if you can make each of the 10 items for under 3s 60cp each for T2 or 14s40cp each for T3 each then you will make a profit when you are done with your 10 items.
7) Try and sell dependant items on the broker such as pristine bars and spikes. I believe that at the moment weapon smiths are the only class that increases in metalworking which directly impacts pristine bars. I think Armorers should have this also but they do not at the moment.
8) When xp grinding your secondary components do not matter so you only need crude but at the same time if you make them you can try for pristine to get more xp per item. It is dependant on you and how you feel in the xp to time ratio.
9) Take the time to get all of your harvest skills up to at least T3. Nothing beats being able to hand resources to your friends to make your subcomponents and it helps lower cost if you are buying on the open market.
10) Beware the forge it is highly deadly (max hit on me for 609hp’s). I have seen too many people at the forge around me die to not stress paying attention when crafting on the forge. This isn’t your momma’s loam where it hits for a measly 152 HP damage and some power drain.

Please help me revise and edit this guide to benefit others. I also ask that if you repost this anywhere please keep my name on the guide.

Thanks,
Zijid

May want to update this with the fact that not everyone will have a level 10 craft society. Also, since this is a guide for new poeple you may as well totally remove the reference to cross scribing books since that ability has been removed from game as of yesterdays patch.

Ok, thanks for the help. I updated removing all reference to crossscribing and noted that the lv 10 society was on the Najena server.

Thanks for the tips. Just wanted to add (since I'm currently standing by her as a new Weaponsmith), her name is Devona Ironforge.

And actually the names for both the ironforges and where they are, are in the game manual under 'crafting'.

Lot of inormation in that little book that came with the game.

AFAIK the amount of damage you take is a percentage of your total HP, so no matter if you are a level 7 with 100hp or a level 30 with 1500.

I am not sure about that. I usually take about 676 dmg on the pure hp hits from the forge, but the person next to me whom was a lv 22 Traboudour gets hit for over 1K. There is not that much of a hp difference between us if they are going buy percents. This is a guild member and we craft in groups togehter so I see when they get hit.

I don't know which task you've been doing, but I never got an outfitter task that made me a profit :( Patterns etc. just cost too much and more than swallow up the reward.
