Anyone who's in beta be sure to put in a bug report about the fact that you can't craft a bed! It's one of the first furnitures to be available to craft and it's bugged! It has Planed Elm as the main component but acts like you don't have any. I have both Shaped Planed Elm and Planed Elm in my inventory but it just won't see it. I hate sleeping on the floor!

BTW, the same holds for the level 6 dining chair too.

Have you tried having the other forms of finished elm in your inventory in case it's really needing a dowel instead of a board or something silly like that?

I /bug everything I see that isn't right in game. From misspelled words to the all too common crashes. SOE's either going to love or hate me for it. I thought I'd post this here because it's the first major trades bug I've ran into.

Grei: no I haven't tried anything but various quality planed elm. But that's an idea though.

Thankfully, these were only broken for one patch (the one where furniture recipes were still added), then fixed. Beds and chairs can be happily made in a variety of styles.

Hmmm ... bed ... sleeeeeeeepppp? {thudddddd}

Heh, I did eventually make a bed. Then for 2 days I was running around Antonica killing various critters and exploring. I was wondering why my back was so sore all the time and realized I was still carrying the bed around with me! I finally got the bed into its final resting place in my minimalist apartment, but I think I'm permanenty stooped over! :D

Carrying a bed around with you? I suppose that's one way to meet new and interesting people.

"Is that a bed on your back or are you just happy to see me?"

If I can throw out a minor bit of advice that I'm sure most crafters will figure out on their own... :)

Furniture makers: Set up example pieces in your house, then stay online as much as possible when peeps come to shop. On my halfling character, Spurrin, I visited a local furnituremaker (who shall remain nameless, but is nonetheless a very respected member of the crafting community). I browsed around the furniture displays in said crafter's home, and it was VERY helpful to have her there live to answer questions about which piece of furniture/decoration was which. Since I am not a furniture-maker myself, I had no way of knowing which finished item was which. The crafter in question was kind enough to piont out what was what, and it was very helpful in deciding which pieces of furniture I wanted for my "look".

Like I said, most of you have probably already thought of this, but just some friendly advice from a future customer :)

As things get a bit more polished around here, I will likely put up a furniture section on the main site, including screen shots. Traditionally, we've been low graphics around here, to keep load times fast and bandwidth down, but the furniture really needs images to go along with it, since there's no way to tell when visiting someone's room which piece is which without a tour guide.

I gotta admit, I am a bit confused about the point of furniature. I mean, I know people will like it (some people) but I still think it should *do* something. Maybe you can't progress beyond a certain degree of status or something without investing in a minimum of furniature, but still, that would be problematic in terms of some characters. I want to say "who really respects a person without a bed to sleep in" and my automatic answer is "monks." But maybe with an exception for monks that would still be a workable idea.

As mentioned a loong time ago (by Mum I believe), 'Fluff sells.' People like things that don't necessarily have a game function other than to look nifty. Way back in olden times when I played UO, the richest tradeskillers were the tailors who could make all kinds of non-armor clothes in vibrant, if not eye-straining, colors. I think that as this game progresses, you'll see much the same thing, especially if Alchemists can make dyes, wood stains and the like to go along with the style clothing and furniture.

Additionally, craftsmen/carpenters can make strong boxes.

These weight 100 items are meant for in the bank, mind you, but the higher level ones will have more slots in them. The pristine ash strong box (carpenter level 25) has either 16 or 18 slots.

I think that makes up for the lesser bank slots. Though with the *four* shared slots plus the six regular slots, only us crafters are likely to run out of room on any regular basis. :D

{slips Inyidd some smelling salts} It's 16 slot at the pristine stage.

All we need now is some kind of level two artisan who can make some really spiffy pictures of some dogs playing poker (gnolls playing poker?) and we'll have bachelor digs to die for all set up. :)

LOL! Hey I had one of those! :D Don't forget the bookshelves made of milk crates and boards!

BTW, if you leave off the particle board, there always seems to be holes drilled into those spools that make great beer can holders.

That's why those always make great poker/card tables. =)
