I got the following from a Mob drop on the Isle of Refuge:

I noticed they spelled Machinist wrong in the title :) and have bugged it. I'm only level 5 Artisan now, so haven't been able to scribe the book yet. The volume number in the title refers to what level Artisan you have to be to use the recipes inside the book.

You are considerably overqualified for this item.

ROFL! I just had to point that out. I find that hilarious. But I guess that type of thing is what Beta is all about!

The message about your qualifications is based on the level of the object, not the contents. All books appear to be level 0 or 1 inherently, but you can't actually use them until you meet the level requirements for the contents.

Still, it'd be nice if the message reflected that, but it's a cosmetic thing at the moment. :)

Nice! I have yet to score a mob-dropped book on any characters

I am curious to see the finished items from this. Shoot me a link in-game when you get some made! :) Or post stats here :)

BTW... the drop books use rare resources for their primary components, so he is not likely to make something from it quickly :)

Hmm, perhaps a friendly neighborhood Ogre can help :)

At the very least I'll post some pics of the actual recipes :)

Edit: one other note, I'm level 9 Adventurer now and when I harvest wood from 'Alder' I still get elm. Kind of goes with what Ngreth mentioned above.

Heh, figures. I have a couple of rare harvests, but no recipes to use them :(

I've had no luck on either so far...the rare harvests or the dropped recipes. Did end up with a dropped exploration quest tome for Antonica---but as I'm still a few levels low to go far from Qeynos, I haven't got far on it.

Hey, I'd love to see some results also! Just a suggestion, but perhaps you could post a list of what you need and solicit donations to the cause? Considering this is beta and all that it isn't like people are going to be too stuck on their personal finances. Offer to give credit to people who help discover something new and maybe we'll all learn something.

Just keep at it. When I hit level 10 scholar, I was level 12 bard so I went to Forest Ruins and farmed those elemental things. Up to that point I had three characters around that level and had yet to see one of those silly books drop, let alone win one. Eventually with farming and trades I got the full set. A friend of mine made a toon that he kept on IoR and farmed his books there. Now with the bazaar function in place, it may be easier to find some of them.

As far as rares, they are that. Rare. In all of the exploration, toon leveling, etc I have seen one lapis and one alder. I harvest every node I see, nothing left unturned. Again, just keep at it.

I saw many of the books on the bazaar :) Including the overly rare refining 4 :/ for 1 Gold!!! (lets put it this way... I am very well off in the game for my level... maybe even slightly rich (though not filty rich) and I have 7 gold to my name.... so 1 gold is ALOT!

Yeah, and IIRC book 4 (dropped version) is needed if you want to make the rare stuff from the other dropped books, 5-9.

I saw Scholar 11 for 1g7s the other day while in Qeynos. Hubby and I then got on the Inkies and in Freeport saw Scholar 11 for 11sp!

I sure hope they put in the "money making tradeskill quests" soon. ;)

I have a quick question about recipe books. Must you find a recipe book in game and read it before you can attempt it? Lets say I get a recipe from your site for Fine Breastplate, but I havent found the recipe in game, can I still attempt it or I must find the correspoding book in game first? Thanks in advance.

You have to have the recipe scribed into your personal recipe list before you can attempt it. No more experimenting. When you buy/find a recipe book of a level appropriate to you, right-click it and select scribe to have it added to your recipe list.

Generally, each book has recipes of the level of that book. Though I did notice that after scribing the Artisan Essentials vol. 6 (level 6 book) last night, I had a level 8 recipe in my list. I'll have to try and create it just to see if it's possible. I imagine it will be too difficult, but we'll see.

IIRC corrcttly that recipe is a tin throwing axe. I attemtped it at 7 and got the same amount of xp as level 7 combines. /shrug

How do you tell how much experience you get from a combine?

I was in Beta and doing tradeskilling and I couldn't find any indicator, what did I miss?

Just hit the 'P' key to bring up your persona dialog and look at the Tradeskills exp bar, do your combine, look again. That unfortunately is as technical as we can get. I don't know if there's any command to move your trades exp bar to the main window, like the adventure one is.

Drucilla

Moonshade has the right of it. I just keep the "p" window open during combines to see the approximate amount of xp I get (2%, 5% whatever it may happen to be).

right click on the exp bar. select "show tradeskill experience" :p

I never did find that in Beta, loading the game now, I'll go look in 3 minutes and 28 seconds.

Thanks all.

Good luck. :)

You'll need it. In my entire beta experience over 4 characters I found 2 dropped books. They use the word rare for a reason. :D

I am not sure what it was in beta but the dark elf I had in Freeport and not doing any crafting at all, looted 6 books in the short time I messed with him. I think I got him to level 12.

Got this rare book to finally drop last night on Kithicor in Oakmyst forest off an Oakmyst Spirit. Just a reminder, the mob has to at least be green to get a chest. I spent 6 hours on newbie island and never found it there. 11/30
