Toiling away making essences for friends, a few for the market and the odd task thrown in. Wondering if there's a quicker way to progress. Ink takes a long time to process.

Money is still pretty tight so i can't afford to blow lots of gold on skilling up, but i could afford to drop a couple g if i could get a few levels quickly.

I have quite a few stax of gold, agate, carbonite, belladonna, but nothing processed yet. Also have a couple stax of bottles on order for potions. But thought i might hold onto them waiting for a fix.

Will hit lvl 25 tonight.

Thanks in advance.

1. you're already IN tier3... 1-9 is tier1, 10-19 is tier2, 20-29 is tier3, etc.. get it?

2. stax? STAX?! man... cmon.....

3. only a few gold? cant afford to blow money skilling up? what the heck are you talking about? GO HARVEST YOUR OWN STUFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF (that makes it free) and ill repeat again for emphasis (FREE HARVESTS)

4. dont bother with potions and poisons if you're just trying to level up unless you're only doing 1 of each for discovery xp

5. make ink, alot of ink.. get it done and over with, so you wont have to do it later... if you're level 24, make about.. 6 stacks of ink.. seriously, just break it up over the course of a few days.. one day do the reagents, one day the dye, one day the inks.. getting it all done in one day will make you alot happier later when you USE the ink

6. skillup on fighter essences.. take advantage of discovery xp, thats why its there.. you WILL grind out level 29 and depending on your sanity all or part of 28 PURELY ON FIGHTER ESSENCES (which require ink... you following?)

7. stax....?

Join a guild either focused on tradeskills or one that has a lot of tradeskillers. They need you. They love having a member alchemist. And you will love them, to an extent. :p

They will bring you raw materials, and you will make them liquids and inks. Work out a deal with them to bring you T3 fungal drops (easily converted to xp and sp) and trade your time for some of their final combines. I spend a lot of time in the lab for my guild, a LOT of time. But they give me extra harvests that I use to make essences or liquids to sell on my vendor. They give me nice backpacks and armor pieces. They give me jewelry, free food (ok that last one is just our provisioner being really nice since she doesn't need me at all :D )

It is quite a grind throughout, since what we make most is just interim components but you will notice the XP coming in when you make stacks of this stuff nonstop without having to harvest it yourself. Just take the time to make 1 of all your final combines every level to help things along.

right right t4 thx

2. stax? STAX?! man... cmon.....

yeah stax... get funky (don't worry you won't get it)... like cmon is short for come on... but not as funky ;)

3. only a few gold? cant afford to blow money skilling up? what the heck are you talking about? GO HARVEST YOUR OWN STUFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF (that makes it free) and ill repeat again for emphasis (FREE HARVESTS)
Repeating something does not make it true. Usually the opposite. Harvesting your own stuff does not make it free... go read the thread in general and be enlightened. I harvest for skill ups.

4. dont bother with potions and poisons if you're just trying to level up unless you're only doing 1 of each for discovery xp
Because they don't sell, aren't useful, exp sux (yeah yeah sux), or you need bottles from jewelers?

5. make ink, alot of ink.. get it done and over with, so you wont have to do it later... if you're level 24, make about.. 6 stacks of ink.. seriously, just break it up over the course of a few days.. one day do the reagents, one day the dye, one day the inks.. getting it all done in one day will make you alot happier later when you USE the ink
I been making a lot of ink... hence my post...

6. skillup on fighter essences.. take advantage of discovery xp, thats why its there.. you WILL grind out level 29 and depending on your sanity all or part of 28 PURELY ON FIGHTER ESSENCES (which require ink... you following?)

yeah get funky.

Anyone got tried any alternatives to ink and essences? Potions/poisons too much a hassle?

It's not really 'free.'

Well in the sense of Money ... harvesting is free.
However harvesting does have a cost involved.

Only works well at first, but collect from the mushroom patches and always make every emulsion, liquified X, solution, compound, etc you can grind out for the discovery exp.

Then the essences are the only way to go. You can get bottles and do potions, but I like to be self sufficient, do the essences, and sell them for a small profit.

Right now I charge 30sp for the lower end tier 3 Fighter App 3's and they sell fairly quickly.

Hmmmm, I thought I had the idea of Scholar progression.

So alchemists make combat abilities? My dumb arse thought that sages made ALL spells/combat abilities...

At level 28, how much exp do you get for a brand new pristine essence combine?

It drops off really fast in the lower 20's, back at 21 I got 9% for a brand new pristine essence combine, 22 was 6% and now at 23 I was only getting 3%. I hope it levels off so we atleast get 1% for a brand new essence combine.

Oh, im talking about even leven essences here btw.

Sages make spells (for mages and priests), alchemists make essences (for fighters), and jewelers make runes (for scouts).

If you're short on money, either a) forage your own....you don't have to pay anything but your time, and it's more fun than buying from the broker, especially when there's danger involved, or b) Buy items from the broker that no-one else wants because it's not a wholesale quest item, ie Wild Leek. There was an absolute heap of wild leek available this morning for 2c-20c on the broker, and that sells back to the merchant for 2s when processed....this will allow you to fund your levelling :)

I advocate going out and foraging....who knows you might win lotto and snag a rare.

1. check, complete
2. i disagree, but i wont go into why here
3. you were speaking in monetary sense, so i replied in monetary sense... you do not pay the node 3 copper to be able to harvest from it, thus it results in free (monetary) items.. yes you still do spend time to acquire those, but i wont waste time going over that... i dont care THAT much.. 9_9
4. all of the above.. several do work, but generally arent worth the cost to be effective.. NPC poisons are a better value.. if you have a jeweler friend, give him loams while you're making ink (dont complain) and get some vials and bottles if you really want to try it out..
5. the only way to skillup without making ink is to make level 21 recipes all the way up to 30... have fun
6. see above
7. stax =! funky

For the purpose of grinding out levels, harvesting your own resources is free. Why? Because you are only interested in making the most xp items, not the items that sell the best.

Stax Records was a Memphis, Tennessee based record label that existed from 1959 to 1976. It is known as a major factor in the creation of the Southern soul and Memphis soul music styles, and as a frequent recorder of early funk and 1960s Chicago blues.
