Ok, I wanted to put a post out to see what people thought, and offer suggestion as to what to do. Currently I have two characters: a level 16 Dwarven Bezerker / 14 Outfitter and a level 11 Kerran Cleric / 10 Scholar, so here is my thought. I really would like to get the Artisan Refining Vol 4 & the Artisan Components Vol 5&6 books. Only problem is that I was one day too late to find out that those books dropped in IoR before the patch. Darn!!

In any case, I have found I really am quite addicted to the tradeskilling and enjoy it very much but I would really like to know how to get my hands on those two books without paying 5gps per on my server. I have gathered a few bits of information here and there and I want to see if I am correct or if I am barking up the wrong tree, so here goes.

1. Chests will only drop from mobs that are green or higher con.
2. Rare drops come from mobs who have ^^ and group titles under their names.
3. Can only be found in zones around Qeynos / Freeport (only interested in Qeynos) so that means Oakmyst Forest, Forest Ruins, Peat Bog, The Down Below, etc.

Now I have not leveled because I want to get those two books. So should I continue trying to farm those group mobs, or getting named to spawn in hopes of getting a book or should I just not bother, level up and then when I get the money buy the two books. I can farm since that is part of tradeskilling, my question is which would be a better avenue to go.

Dolgan, no offense, but there are just WAY too many thread on this subject floating around, so please do a search and read some of them. To show I'm not being completely mod minded however, here are a couple of quick answers:

If it's grey, you will never get a chest.
Anything can drop a rare - the "group" encounters have a higher tendency to drop chests and the harder "groups" drop more.
Dropped books can be found in any zone of the appropriate Tier. 3-9 come from Tier 1.
The books are of very limited use as they are outgrown very fast. Not saying useless, but not something that, IMO, you'll be regretting later unless you are a collector.
