It aggrivates me without end... when i find out that me as an armorer.. which in fact.. is a blacksmith with a specialty of making armors.. cannot craft a <simple> carbonite stud! Its beyond all logics... it baffles me totaly, who ever designed the interact between artisans.. must have lacked any kind of reality connections. Even though i agree that all this in theory.. works fine.. but out on the workshops it dosent.
Now, im not against the whole deal with having to interact with other artisans in order to get components which i myself cannot craft.. but when these items.. are truely within the field of my profession.. but i cannot still make them.. and its no bug.. that i cannot make them.. its makes me seriously frustrated and angry.
As another example.. a Tailorer.. are not able to make generic Canvas patterns.. I mean.. hello? What kind of tailorer would it be.. if he wasnt able to make his own patterns! Its straight out proposperous!
At this point the system in theory works fine, but when it starts to defy all sane logics.. i do call it all to be broken. And this needs to be fixed.
I love to tradeskills, its a passion i have since EQ1.. where all my tradeskills where over +240.. but the past 10 hours i have been nothing else then disappointed and angry with how certain classes are simply not able to create and craft certain items.. which truely lies within their field of expertice!
When all this have turned from joy to aggrivation.. then there is something wrong. And im pretty sure that all other artisans feels the same.. when it comes to not being able to craft items.. which truely lies within their own field!

I disagree. Give it a little time.

Dont think of the tailor making the pattern. Think of the Woodworker making the paper. No tailor can make paper.
A blacksmith hits things with a hammer and grabs them with tongs. Hardly subtle work. I personally own a true iron forged clasp for a kilt. It looks very unpolished and very old even though I watched be made 2 years ago.
As opposed to a buckle that is nice finished metal with much smaller parts.
Think of your studs as well finished. Not simply a small sharp point but detail work on them. It is easier to see why Jewelers are in charge of them.

Actually if you want to see the reasoning for Jewler don't look at the stud itself but how it's attached.
And as to the patern, I know a bunch of real life seamstresses and not a single one can make a patern for themselves, they all buy them at the store. On the other hand they will buy 1 patern and use it for 10+ articles of clothing.

As has been pointed out, this doesn't defy logic at all. Making small finely crafted objects wouldn't be the domain of someone that bangs on big pieces of metal with a huge hammer.

I myself things are as they should be if sony starts playing with things again then they will get it all out of wack just like eq1 was. If its not broke don't fix it.

Have u ever worked at a forge in real life? With the ignorance that u show, i do belive that u not even seen a real life forge.
Banging big metal pieces with a big hammer? its way more delicate work then that. And it is not outside the field of a blacksmith.

EQ2 != RL
A little realism is great and all, but some realism must be given up or reinvented in order to make a game work.
Feel free to make delicate little things on your RL forge all day long.

Point is, either u are a blacksmith who makes ornaments, crafts armor, weapons or similar. They are all still blacksmiths.. and a regular metal stud is something very trivial for one with this profession. Its his job to shape and work with anything in metal way. A blacksmith not being able to craft a metal stud.. is not an unrealistic request at all. Even in a game like EQ2.

I think that you may not realize that even if they gave you the ability to make a stud you would find that they would then change what you need from a stud to a Fine stud, or a polished stud that you would then have to get from a jeweler.
The interdependancy is here to stay, changing 1 small step would not make it any better for you. They need you to rely on other classes. RL has nothing to do with it. The need for the dependance on others is a key mechanic to the game.

Not everybody who can build a house or a bookshelf can carve a wooden duck in detail.
Not everybody who can make a horseshoe or a metal spike can fashion that into a delicate gold chain or finely detailed stud.
Not everybody who can write a book, can make paper and writing utensils from scratch.
From what I have seen, most of this makes sense the way it is implemented in game.

I agree and disagree with the general idea the origional poster had. I'm a tailor and I have often thought "what the heck kind of tailor can't make patterns?". Really, yes, I imagine many can't. But tossing reality aside it does seem like the person who makes patterns should be a tailor.
I have no problem with the dependance of classes on others. I also don't think anything should be changed, at least no time soon, simply because it would be a waste of SOEs resources to address something as trivial as this now (yes, they would get no xp from it).
However, I think it would be nice to see the items needed from other classes be a little more obvious. Something such as paper... ok... I get that the woodworkers make paper because they work with wood... but the process to make paper has pretty much nothing to do with carpentry. Yes, blacksmiths can make small metal bits. I don't know anything about jewelcrafting.
I guess all I'm saying is it would be nice if these semi-vague items were replaced with very clearly made by the other classes items, but it would be too much of a hassle and we'll have to just live with them as they are.
