I'm really kinda sad they got rid of player sold merchant stock in EQ2. I miss trolling through merchants inventory to see what some unknowing soul had sold off and I could pick up. Honestly, I'm not sure why they dumped it.. I mean, if I was a merchant and bought some random stuff from some adventurer, I'd sure be looking to unload it at a reasonable (or even unreasonable) profit.
So sad :(

The Betrayal quest is a PITA, but doable :)
I have not done it yet in live (just no time)
Will look into it when the site is more done :)

One of my guildies has finished the betrayal, and another is almost done. It's not too bad really, lots of kill gnoll quests including several obtainable in Antonica, and I assume there are similar kill orc quests in the Commonlands. The named can be annoying, but they don't drop loot so people are leaving them up, and groups so far seem willing to form up to kill them. Heck, we helped someone last night simply because our DE guildy saw her looking and wanted to help a fellow DE.

Working on the (F to Q) betrayal now, and it's not as bad as it sounded like it was going to be. After about 8 hours of work, including the initial encounter (done twice, I failed the first) and the run to Antonica, I'm about 2/3 done with the 500 gnolls and have 4 of the 5 dead. (And much of the mass murdering time was solo; probably could have been faster if I hooked up with someone, but I had to take frequent afks while I was doing it...)
Given that the initial estimates I was seeing were on the order of 20-25 hours, to say I'm pleased with the progress would be an accurate statement...

Merchant mining was done away with to minimize exactly what the servers had to 'remember'. If nothing a player sells toa merchant is available to buy back then none of it has to be saved anywhere on the servers, freeing up HUGE amounts of data storage space for more important things. Like your quest journals or your enlarge bank space when you have those 32 slot bank boxes for examples.
As for the betrayel quest? I think, personally, it was FAR FAR too easy. We have 6 betrayers in our queynos guild alone. Ogre, Ratonga and 4 Dark Elves.
And I swear to GOD if I see ONE MORE DARK ELF PALADIN I am gonna VOMIT? 90% of them are Paladins. Do they think it is ORIGINAL or something?!

Maybe they are just fulfilling a longstanding desire to play a Dark Elf Paladin? I mean, not everyone has to (or can, for that matter) be completely original with respect to every other person in the world, ever. Give other people a break... don't get so worked up.
After all, High Elf Paladins aren't really that original either...
... and hey, I was expecting to see an even huger amount of Dark Elf Rangers... with 2 scimitars... or at least crying about scimitars not being dual-wield weapons

Aye, I know someone who has roleplayed her Dark Elf Cleric of Innoruk as a Paladin of Innoruk for years. I expect her to be betraying for Qeynos so she can be a DE paladin for real. I can't think of anyone that's being modeled on, so don't know why you'd be getting worked up about it being 'unoriginal'. It's the onslaught of DE Rangers and Gnome Monks that I'm expecting to get tired of seeing.....

hopefully there will be disads to Betrayal quests later. i just can not see orges/barbs getting thier racial (assuming they ever make any) armor if they have done the quests.

They are still ogres or barbs so why not? They learned before betraying. I don't see any logic to your statment.

coming from EQ1 actually. barbs where about as anti evil as you could get as a race there for evil chars should not be able to use the "Holy" racial armors imbued basicly if i remember correctly and same applies for the orges. "BUT" since the gods seem to have ran away i do not see true racial armor in our furture. basicly i am saying that the same , or close to it , restrictions should apply that applies to agnostics in EQ1.
basicly as a race orges are evil and barbs are good. so it should be at least next to impossible to convince thier breathren to give them the goodies after they have betrayed thier race.
i really do like the idea of the betrayal quests , and if it where not for the fact i can not be a good necro my darkie would do the quests. but as it stands there is no disadvantage other then some limit to class selection for doing the quest.
i mean think about it. in the case of the races like gnomes or humans which have people on both sides i can see it. but for the purely good/evil races to be able to switch sides and still have access to all the goodies makes no sense. from a RP view point these items are rare and only given to the best and brightest , hence the pain in the rear quests. why would you give these to a traitior that will use them against you.

... Hate to point out the obvious, but you do realize that in EQ2 Barbarians are a 'neutral' race, and therefore can start out as either good or evil? I don't really see the point of a Barbarian doing the betrayal quest... it would take less time to just reroll as the other side and level to 18.
