View Full Version : Bit of Info - What Artisans Have

Rather than change the topic of the Speculation thread I decided to move this to its own.
From EQ2 Stratics, Merloth's blog on his gnome has a tiny bit of information that confirms at least the first speculation. =)

The second one of these [quests] is a tutorial in crafting where I had to first convert raw material into workable resources and then forge it into an object which I gave to the owner of the crafting area.
So raw material -> usable resource definitely appears to be in!

As an artisan, you'll get your feet wet making a little bit of everything. From taking raw resources and refining them, to using those refined items to make interim products, to turning the interim products into finished products.
An example would be taking a harvested pelt and turning it into a stretch of rawhide. You would then further refine that stretch into a rawhide plate, which is considered an interim product. After that, you would take the rawhide plate and combine with some other goodies, and make a finished product - such as bag or a piece of rawhide armor.
Artisans work with the first tier of harvested items and have a full variety of recipes to work with: foodstuffs, furniture, weapons, armor, scrolls, jewelry, various concotions with the chemistry set, and so forth. This allows you to get a basic sampling of the various tradeskill professions, so you have a better feel for what you want to do after reaching artisan 9.
Once you hit 10, then you start getting more specialized, and only have a specific subset of the recipes that work with tier 2 resources. (i.e., you'll always have all those lovely level 1-9 recipes to work with, but as a scholar, for example, you won't be able to access the level 10+ armor and weapons recipes.)
Hope this helps clarify things a tad.

I was just thinking about asking this earlier. I knew we had speculated it was true, but hadn't heard anything since the NDA lift. Glad to hear they did the logical thing!

Thanks Mum! You actually pre-answered a forming question in terms of if you keep your prior non-speciality recipies - I just was reading another thread and it sounded like you "lost" those other recipies.

No you keep them, and even need to use some of them (if you believe in making your own components). And then of course there's recipes like the food ones...still haven't touched level 9, but so far it looks like 3-9 is pretty self contained (though I don't exactly agree with the order on some of the inter-related ones).

I'm sure the Den Mother and House Ogre are working feverishly to prepare the full scale, detailed listings of trade skill items, their recipes and effects, but I was curious if anyone could please answer a question about how effective the low level alchemy Elixir's are and what effect, if any, the Artisan level foods have.

Artisan (and up to Provisioner in fact) foods have increased regen rate in downtime, and they last a lot longer than bought foods.
At this time, there is no other benefit... but I'm ever hopeful of them adding other stats..

I had one elixir that increased my wis by 3 for a bit (I think it was fairly short :/) but I did not note the time. It was an artisan level potion.

Hey all, long-time reader, first-time poster.
As to the artisan foods. I sat down and tried to work this out myself. Towards the end of beta, I was using recipes from the lvl 19 craftsman book. The food I was using was Vanilla Cake I believe and the drink was I believe Orange Beer. Not sure wether these names are accurate, but close enough to be recognized. I was using pristine drink and second level food, the vanilla cake recipe seemed to be bugged and did not allow me four levels of success.
The pristine drink was lasting me 75 minutes per use, compared to the approximate 25 minutes per use that the storebought, cheapest drink was lasting me. The second level of success food was lasting approximately 50 minutes. As far as additional regen, I believe they were both giving me an extra 15 units of regen per tic.
Most of my info I was starting to collect, which was limited at best, is lost to me at the moment. Once we go live, I will be collecting this information and seeing if I can figure out the progression and get some hard numbers.

Really wish there was some sort of in-game way to tell the progression of the foods, atm the only foods you can tell progression on are vendor-sold foods, and only then because you can compare sales prices.
And from what I've seen, the cheapest (6c in Freeport) vendor-sold food/drink last for 30 min each exactly. When I was on the Isle of Refuge this food cost only 1c, so I'm not sure if the prices changed in a patch, or if the food is still cheaper on Refuge. Might want to keep an eye peeled to this, and stock up on food/drink before you leave Refuge to take advantage of the lower price.

Welcome to posting on the boards Guldd!
The sort of info you are accumulating would be of great interest to the rest of the community, I'm sure! Though I must say I hope they add that information to the game instead as, like Tyrsa, I'd rather not have a sheet sitting beside me to remind me which is what.
