View Full Version : problems raising artistry skill

I just dinged lvl 14 craftsman (on my crafty toon, Chendon) and decided it was time to get my artistry skill up and make some food to get rid of gathered stuffs on my mule.
Starting with Artistry is at like 37 or something, I went through about 4 stacks of combines, trying both the tier 1 reactions and the tier 2 - not a single skill up.
Just seems weird since my woodworking, scuplting (and other skills on my outfitter, Chenier, who's also 14), just fly.
Am I doing something wrong is or has the RNG take a bit wet bite outta Chendon's cute little half elf butt?

Hiyas :)
I think I heard something about skillups in Artistry being odd. Someone else might have more specific info.

I get most skillups in artistry from refining -- thyme, vanilla, etc...

aaah, I'll have to try that. I was mixing up spice and just making things - but I've got some stuff to refine, so I'll try that.
Otherwise, I'll just chaulk it up to RNG.

Heya, m'am. This is listed in the known bugs thread over in the General Tradeskills forum, and I suspect it's the topic of much discussion in the provisioner forum, too.
The artistry buffs/responses aren't tied properly to the artistry skill, so your only chance for skillups are on item completion. I recommend a lot of cheap low-end refines and such if you want to force it up before they fix this.

We've a fairly long thread in the Provisioner section about this.
Personally I seem to have got more skill hits recently, but I gather I've just been lucky.

Ah, my bad....I have no intention of becoming a provisioner, hence I didn't check there. I did read the known issues list, but I guessed I just missed it.
Sorry!

I maxed my artistry skill the 1st time at level 22 or 23. But I made a lot of green / blue combines to suply my guild (I still wonder how some guys can use up a stack of presitine drinks in less then 1 day). If you do only the high XP combines (white / yellow) it might take longer to max out the skill. And sometimes the RNG dosn't like you and you don't get any skill up in 20 or 40 combines and then *BANG* you get 2 or 3 in a row.
Don't give, keep working. The skill ups will come.

Nusham is correct as are several other people.
I have 9 tradskill toons. One of each Sub-class type and Artistry was the hardest to max out.
Granted my Provisioner did not start cooking full time till ~ level 9.
I didn't take notes but I seem to recall being ~ 12 skill points below cap for a long time ( till ~ level 14 or 15 ).
It seemed like I only was gaining +1 or +2 skill from level 15 to 20.
At ~ 20 I was still ~ 6 or 7 skill below max.
AT the end of level 22 I finally capped my skill 2 combines before dinging 23. All through level 23 I never got below -1 of skill cap. every 20% exp cap would go up +1 and sometime shortly after that ( ~10 or so combines) I would get a skill up and be capped again.
Granted Cooking (Artistry) may be a little bit bugged in regards to how slow or frequent the skill ups occur but if your a serious cooker / provisioner you will easily make 20+ and your skills will cap off.
Dafydd.
