Everything I read about the gathering skills leads me to believe that your gathering skills automatically go up with your adventurer level. Is this what everyone else sees as well? I think it would be better to have the gathering skill CAP go up with adventurer level, but have the actual skill only go up as you use it. My reasoning is that I don't think I should be a better fisherman at level 20 than my level 10 friend even if I've never bothered to buy a pole, and he fishes every time he sees water. True this way will make gathering much easier, but not necessarily better. As an Artisan, it'll be easier to get components. Say, I need some diamonds to make a nifty ring, and I know they are a level 35 mining item. Why, all I have to do is do a player search for any level 35+ person and /tell them with a gathering proposition. I can already see higher level adventurers being spammed with gathering requests by artisans.

That is more or less how I see it going but I don't really see players getting spammed so much but I do know adventurers will use this as a means to make money, kind of like the scouts selling meat and hides to crafters of all sorts.

I am hoping this will help the economy in game as a way for adventurers to make money from artisans and then back again. Adventurers buying better artisan goods :)

I am with you on this though and hope that it is a cap that goes up with level but I do not think it is unless maybe it is by quantity that you gather. Just from my understanding you don't even see stuff you can gather until you are the level of that item. Someone that was at the SOE visit said that they didn't see a rock they could harvest and then they dinged level 6 and there they were right in front of them.

I can't wait to hear more about things or find them out for myself :D

Doh! That means that every level I get I'll have to run through every zone again to see if anything new shows up! My guys legs will be very muscular from all that running!

Seriously though, they should change the wording from gathering skill, to gathering ability. To me, skills usually mean you have to work to improve them, abilities are just gimme's.

Its still possible that harvesting skills dont go up automaticly as you level. It might just be that materials 'nodes' are level based, not skill level based. So ging from level 5 to 6 and suddenly seeing a new node would make sense. The guy probably still couldnt hit the rock with a hammer if he was standing on it though, unless he trained his skill up.
I'm with you btw, I'd like to see gathering skills skill level based, not just level based. Seems more realistic.

I hope you are right, Moonshade. It makes no sense that a level 30 paladin who has never dirtied his hands would be a great miner, or that a cleric who's never been outside of Freeport could trap animals.
