So, I'm a level 16 craftswoman, puzzling through my choice at level 20. I had originally planned to be a Provisioner, for RP reasons, but now I'm not sure.

Good things about Provisioner:
Constantly useful for regen when adventuring
Fun variety of recipies
Independent of other artisans

Good things about Woodworker:
Highly useful to other artisans
Skill seems easy to improve
A few items that might sell well on the market

What are your thoughts?

Which way are you going, and why?

Provisioner? GAH!

Cooking is EBIL! hehe!

I tried for several hours the other nite to make tea. How hard can it be to put tea leaves in water and heat with coal? Geez! That ugly metal monstrostity belched smoke and green exploding goo for hours as I anxiously watched my progress bar move from green to yellow to red, and finally belched out ruined aged tea leaves! (

I kicked it!

Hurt my toe!

Had to go soothe my temper by making a beautiful pristine maple strong box. Then I went back to try my hand at the vodka recepie. After another absolutely horrid endless episode with the stove I finally produced a dubious product claiming to be watery vodka. Had an absolutely brilliant idea, I would sell it back to the merchant, maybe she would drink it, and I could buy some stuff cheap? Alas, she wasn't that excited about it either! Offered me a pittance for it.

Never again!

I refuse to go near plains shrubbery.

and from a cook... there's nothing so nice as putting some of the plentiful raw materials into a pan, and switching the stove on to produce some delectable food.

As to woodwork.. Phooey.. After only just managing to make a crude maple strongbox (nearly lost all the components due to some really bad work!).. I'm definitely headed back to the stove.

I can make paper & quills and staves with no problem, they use woodworking skills. As soon as I'm expected to make furniture or boxes, they use Craftsman skills, which are well rusty. I'd have to go back to tier 1 to update those I feel.

But my Gathering skill is 82.. I'm nearly ready to head to Thundering Steppes... Anyone want to accompany an enthusiastic, well meaning and slightly nutty 13 cleric?

As a level 16 Craftsman, I will be choosing the Provisioner path when I hit 20. Dwarves love their food and drink almost as much as precious gems and bearded ladies :P The regen on stuff like Candied Oranges is sooooo much better than the nasty regen on Rations etc that making food and drink is the only way forward!

And Ariadne, I would be happy to accompany you to Thundering Steppes. I was there yesterday on my own and it was a scary experience. Had a wee creep about but found nothing and was to nervous to go any further in case a bunch of yellow cons jumped me and took my Antonican coffee off me :)

My Keran has a horrible time in the kitchen. She even looks like she's fighting the stove. I think I'll stick to Carpentry.

Woodworker all the way here. Mainly so I can keep myself in arrows. Ah, the delightful twang of the bow, the surprised look on a Gnoll as 2 hunting arrows pierce his rump. These are the things that make life worth living!

Just a few thoughts,

Depending upon the stats eventually everyone will want to buy crafted food, so provisioner is good.

With the recent news that furniture will reduce the cost of rent that might make carpentry more valuable.

The advantage of a carpenter is:

1) furnishings: SOE has announced the furniture will help offset costs of maintaining a home.
2)storage! Carpenters will be the ones making those lovely chest upgrades for banks.

The advantages a woodworker has is wholesale and retail appeal:

1) Wholesale: Paper, Quills, Staves (to sages and weaponsmiths)
2) Retail:bows and arrows, and eventually if they fix them, musical instruments

The provisioner has 2 HUGE advantages as I see it:

1) Independant: very soloable crafter class and the food nodes seem to be the least contested.
2) Market: built in customer base since food is a consumeable!

So you see, anyway you go there is some advantage. =)
