I'm almost certain this rant already exists somewhere, but I haven't found it yet.

What on Norrath were the devs thinking when they set up the node distribution / renewal system? I have found the DenMum's quote Lots of times, after a zone has been picked over by folks for a bit, it seems there's not only a lot of gardens lying around, but a ton of fish nodes. to be very nearly correct, except that I don't even see lots of gardens springing up, just fish, Fish, FISH! You can't even sell the silly things to merchants, and if you're taking the time to clear out all the dang fish nodes, others will likely be harvesting the new land nodes fast enough to keep you in the water forever. Does harvesting need to be a guild activity, with one poor soul designated the fisherman of the day, making room for other nodes to spawn?

Maybe it would have been better to portion out the available node spaces by type, for example giving Zone XYZ 20% Fish, 20% Roots and 60% Dens. Or they could just have an even distribution in every zone. As it is, I'm a Sage but my highest harvesting skill is Fishing, and I'm sure there are hundreds of us in the same situation.

The node respawns are not immediate.

If you are the only one fishing then you can make it work for you.

What I do is fish a few nodes (about 8 worked on the IoR - all (4-5) in Oakmyst - about 6 in Forrest Ruins - then do a mad dash to the place where the nodes I most want are likely to spawn - I usually have a route worked out and am hunting something else while I'm at it - wolves for saliva or deer/bears for pelts - when I've given it enough time and got a few nodes I pop back and clear a few more fish.

Too many fish at once and the new nodes spawn and are picked over - too few and too few spawn.

Lets say that there is a 30% chance a node will be a fish one - then fishing 10 nodes creates 7 (or so given it's random) non-fish ones - when these are picked over by you or another player 5 come back as non-fish and so on.

So depending on your zone and what else is going on and how many others are there you can work out the balance.

I spent 3 hours alone in Oakmyst in an othewise empty instance and followed the cycle and was able to learn where the nodes pop up, and what type - and I still didn't get enough traps but got everything else into the 50s.

In Forest Ruins, I had a little system set up. Clear any nodes by the spiders on the right of the ruins, fish out the first lake, clear any nodes that pop in the entry area, fish out the other lake (the one with KOS fish), the run around back for a few minutes getting nodes there, then work my way backwards. It works pretty well with few people, but the greater # of people harvesting thends to mess it up.

A good place I've found is upstairs in The Caves. Many people either don't know it's there or are too low to run the circuit w/out aggro. It's one big open space so you can see nodes from a good distance. Fishing requires going downstairs, but it's a small zone anyway so that's not such an inconvenience.

/agree. This zone usually has the lowest poplulation overall too. Better chance to get your own instance here as it has no direct connection from a city zone but through mariner bell.

I've started finding fish "super nodes" off the Antonican coastline. This is where I only see one "shoal of fish" sign, but I can fish the same node for 15 or 20 goes before it finally vanishes.

If you look at the amount of fish around the coastline, you begin to realise how many actual harvesting nodes there should be out there - but at least 75% of them are fish nodes

my complaint is that i spend so much time clearing fishing nodes only to have to fight for the regular nodes that then spawn :( . so many people are not willing to do the work to get the other nodes to spawn but the will jump them quickly when they spawn. and the few times i mention that more people should fish if they want good node spawns i get shouted down or told my loss thier gain
