This is a straight copy and paste of the writeup I did for my guildies. Most of it is likely already covered in other guides, and I don't give a lot of recipe specifics, but here it is if anyone is interested :)
Tradeskilling on the Isle of Refuge
by Ryllia, 6+220% scout, 9+220% artisan, IoR, Najena
In order to be an artisan you need to do Dreak's Cellar Cleanup quest. This will get you to lvl 3 artisan, as well as earn you a 4 slot bag. After that you can leave the Isle and do the rest of your tradeskilling off the Isle, or you can stay and get up to lvl 9 on the Isle.
Currently, the main reasons to stay and do tradeskilling on the island are the crazy competition for nodes, and the fact that the wholesaler quests are based on the max your resource collecting skills could be for your adventure lvl. So getting skillups foraging on the Isle is less frustrating. (Note: there are no trapping nodes on the Isle, so that skill has to wait till the mainland).
The benefit of moving to the mainland to continue is that there you can purchase a lot of the secondary components rather than having to make them yourself.
I'm a make everything from scratch and save every copper kinda girl, so I prefer staying :D
Here's what I would suggest :)
Do the initial tradeskill quest first (to get the bag), then do the adventure quests and harvest every node you run across in the meantime, storing in the bank. Don't forget the Schools of Fish (there are a limited # of nodes that can be up in a zone at one time, so clearing them all will help the ones you want to respawn faster). Also, try and get the 6-slot goblin satchel that drops, more storage space is always good :D
Kill every wolf you come across for saliva. Kill deer/bear/beaver for pelts. Kill everything (other than grey cons) for a chance at a chest for loot you can sell to fund your tradeskilling (and the remote possibility of getting an Artisan book!) ;)
By the time you have a descent supply of tin/lead/salt you will probably have plenty of roots and elm. And if your lucky a little bit of pepper. (The last two days I have seen pepper more often, so they may have increased its spawn rate. I have seen it at every Root spawn area on IoR now. Also, unless they're doing it in tonights patch, they did not split the tin/lead spawns on IoR.)
Now you should have a good supply of ingredients and some cash to buy fuel with. Time to start tradeskillin :)
Check out EQ2 Traders Corner (http://eq2.eqtraders.com/articles/news_page.php) for all your tradeskilling questions :)
Go on! At least check out the How-To section.
. . . i'm waiting. . .
OK, got the idea? Good, lets continue ;)
Open three new hotkey bars and arrange all your tradeskill buffs to your satisfaction. (You can close these bars when your not tradeskilling, and reopen them when you are.) The tradeskill buffs can be found in your Knowledge book under the tradeskill Tab, two pages worth. Remember these can be used as buffs to help the process along as well as being used to counteract the negative Events that pop up. If you're really into exactly what each buff does for you, check out Ariadne's amazing guide Basic Tradeskill Guide & what the numbers mean (http://www.paine-family.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Hobbies/Everquest.htm)
Right click on your experience bar and switch it to Tradeskill experience to help keep track of your progress.
Buy fuel: coal, candles, sandpaper, filaments, etc, then head to the cellar. If you managed to get some pepper, start with making packet of spices, with which you can make baked frog legs or sunfish steaks. Make tin bars, elm lumber, leather rawhide, lead bars. Dont forget to go buy and scribe the next Tradeskill book each time you lvl.
You get more experience for making pristine items, and a little more experience if your secondary components are also pristine. You cannot get a pristine result if your primary component is not pristine. (Raw materials are considered pristine.)
You get an experience bonus the first time you successfully make an item, so if you want the fastest route you can just go through your recipes and try and make one of each thing. You can sell results back to the vendor for around 21c. (He gives you the same price for shaped as for pristine.)
I prefer making things that are useful to me, rather than to sell. Key useful items: backpacks, strongboxes, Apprentice 3(App3) spells/abilities.
I have not tried making Fighter App3 potions, but it seems they require suspensions that are not sold on the isle (I dont know if there is a recipe for those suspensions, will update this as I check it out). Scout Runes and Priest/Mage Scrolls can be completed on the isle. These are great, but be warned, they do require LOTS of subcombines.
Backpacks can have 4 to 6 slots depending on the quality, with the 2 higher qualities having weight reduction as well. Strong boxes have weight of 100, so are for bank only, 5-8 slots depending on quality.
By the time you fill your inventory with bags, your bank with boxes and update all your spells you should be 220% into lvl 9. (Note: the Artisan Essentials 9 book is not sold on IoR, you'll have to wait till the mainland to buy it.)
You can also offer to trade bags/boxes/spells to other people for dropped Artisan books :)
Have Fun! :)
