View Full Version : Teir 3 Armor - Tailoring
Well, a week has gone by and Im now doing boiled leather armor.
I have a rant included in this post, being that the AQ2 <armor quest 2> quests, are giving better rewards than what we can make. So at level 20, a person can work on a suit of armor that more or less beats down the hard and long work for any Outfitter class.
Weapons seem to be the only profesison not outdone by quests.
sure, the stat differnece from AQ2 and Teir3 Pristine is minor, but why spend a gold (the price i figure is fair considering needing 3 other classes to make 1 item) when you can get some buddies together and just quest for better stuff.

Most quests that give items that beat tradeskill iyems require more time and effort to achieve. it isn't "easier" to get this armor, and any quest where it is, i suspect the rewards/difficulty will be adjusted. Player crafted armor is meant to be comparable to drop/quested gear, not superior. This is overall though, not on a case by case basis. Some cases it will favor the tradeskills, sometimes it will favor quests, but overall they are supposed to be comparable.
Thats said, I've mentioned before that trade items are mostly for filling in equipment gaps and providing gear for the lazy, uninformed, or wasteful. The adventurer would do well to just do quests and not spend any money on gear since they are out there hunting anyways. Its more efficient, to combine their hunting/xping with questing and make better xp and get gear upgrades while they are at it. They can sell most items after they get done using them and get "free" upgrades while they hunt. Tradeskills items are for twinks or lazy players.
Do I care? No. I'll tell you why. A large portion of the player base fit into one of those categories most of the time. Clueless, lazy, and rich/wasteful players come by the dozen. That is where our market is. Its a shrewd viewpoint, but its also fairly correct one. Understand this, and you begin to understand your market.

So far from what I have seen and I'm not that high a level yet so this is just what I have seen in the lower levels. The order goes something like this.
Dropped -> Crafted -> Quested
So far I have found 2 drops that have been better than quest gear I have picked up and about the same for Crafted gear. I think the idea is that people how just grind are going to have the worst gear from drops, then you have the quick upgrades by dropping cash on Crafted which level grinders will use and Questers will use in some cases while they work on getting quested armors. Then the hard core quested armor is the top of the line. Now I'm not saying there is a huge differance here but enough that it makes questing worthwhile and that crafting gear is a good upgrade when you hit the point to use it.

Crafted gear is nice for filling in those gaps. There are 14+ wearable slots. Doing 14 quests at level 7 to 12 is easy. Doing 14 equipment quests at level 25 is some time consuming and players will be leveling faster than they can keep all 14 of those slots updated via quests.

Or they will be like me fighting grey mobs for quest gear drops. Keep in mind Quest gear drops tend to be stonger than what it took to get them by a large amount. I have seen quest items that were easy quests for me at level 7 but the gear is good up to level 15 or even higher. I would guess that for hardcore questers who try to do every quest they can find their gear will be very good for their level though in some cases patch work crafted armor will help out.
Well after hitting 23 last night, i sat down and made 10 of each type of armor level, 5 leather 5 caster...
sold all 10 hats overnight, pricing was 90s each.
So, hats.
Hats!!

Or you can buy the crafted gear, be all decked out while doing the armor quests, and then resell the crafted stuff.
If you're doing both adventuring and crafting like me, what better advertisement than to charge into battle wearing your own stuff? :)

I have to agree with the last poster.
As a "Tank" getting gear from quest up to lvl 18 was easy and now all of it is starting to go Gray/Green/Light Blue with 2 more levels to 20 before I can start the Armor Quest Series.
I WILL be looking for replacement armor prior to starting the quest so that I can be a viable member to a group doing those AQ quest.
Yes I can purchase the lowest level Vanguard from Vendors but if I can come close to that with crafted armor that includes stats.... guess where I'm spending my hard earned Silver.
Keep your prices within reason and you will sell a ton of it... to tanks at least.

Another thing to keep in mind is that for Tier 3 armor, it can't be worn until level 20 -- IF you make it pristine. If you make 'normal' quality armor, it can usually be worn at level 18, and it can be better than almost anything except extremely rare drops.
In theory, you could even drop to shaped and it would probably be usable by mid-teens characters looking for an upgrade.
